Just returned from a great weekend in Sheffield. Our hotel room had a full on view of Park Hill.
Saw The White Crow (about Rudolf Nureyev's defection) at The Showroom cinema on Friday ... great for arts films.
Saturday we queued for a couple of hours in the sun and saw the street artist Phlegm's exhibition in an old knife maker's warehouse. The venue added to the surreal atmosphere. Met lovely local people in the queue too ... great banter. We then walked to Fagan's for a pint. Never been before, it was lovely to listen to the musicians playing in the backroom. Shame we had already eaten, as the food looked good.
Saturday evening we saw Standing at the Sky's Edge at the Crucible. Blown away is an understatement. The different interpretations of Richard's songs was superb. Great to hear ladies singing his songs, and some of the harmonies were heart breaking. The script, actors and musicians are ace, and the standing ovation well deserved. And the Standing at the Sky's Edge golden ale went down well too!
This morning we stopped at Endcliffe Park before hitting the road to Scotland. Had breakfast in the café, and visited the interesting memorial to a crashed US bomber behind it. Wish we could have stayed longer. (It was interesting to see the roundabout and bouncy castle there that featured in the video for 'Serious' !)
So many more places we want to see ... hopefully we'll get tickets if/when Richard tours the new album, to give us another excuse to visit Steel City. Got my Hendos too (the h is silent!)
