So are they the saviours of rock, a glam rock band for the new century, full of ironic comment and wry sarcasm?

Or are they merely on overrated, quite exceptionally ugly pub band who will quickly become tiresome and end up in bargain bins across the land by the end of the year.

Discuss!

Sorry but I really fucking hate that bunch of overblown cock-rockers!!

What really pisses me off is they got a Mercury nomination ahead of Hawleys 'Lowedges'.....I mean, come on......what in the name of Bernard Bresslaw is that all about!!! :YELL

Tossers!

......and that length that calls himself a bastard singer had the audacity to jump up and down on Jool's piano when they were on '..later'!

Mr Holland didnt look impressed one bit!!!!!!!!!!

The only good thing about The Darkness is the bass player's handlebar moustache. It's a beauty.

the lead singer should be a stand-up comedian - he's a legend!

I LOVE The Darkness. They're more fun than Kylie Minogue and a washing machine on a rinse cycle.

See, I think of them as a pop act. We all know that their music will never be as inspiring or moving as someone like Mr. H, but I tell you what; they're fantastic FUN! And I think fun is a good thing, especially in the world in which we live where we work our bollocks off just so we can pay taxes.

Don't get me wrong; there are a million bands that I rate over The Darkness. But sometimes I just want to listen to something lightweight. What can I say?! They put a smile on my face! :)

And I'd rather that kids turned on the radio to listen to Dr. Fox on the breakfast show and hear The Darkness than S Club or summat.

Good point, well put Ernie!

I've actually always had a soft spot for certain 'fun' bands....Being a child of the '80's I was a fan of bands like Bad Manners, Madness, Tenpole Tudor, Adam & the Ants etc, etc!!!

Always a place for a good bit of fun in Rock eg: Little Richard, Chuck Berry have never taken themselves seriously, even the Stones play it mainly for laughs these days......

**Where the fuck am I going with this??**

.......But the Darkness.......i would'nt give 'em the steam off my piss!

the darkness are one of those novelty bands that should've been in the 80s with the rest of the rubbish, there were that many of 'em in the 80s that they would be annoying, but now when everything is supposed to be 'cool' they're pretty funny.

LP :Oink:

Is that it then?

Cant we carry on moaning how shit they are, and how they stole Hawley's Mercury nomination.......and how a band called The Associates did those high, wobbly vocals 10x better in the 80's!!!

You fool, the Vince Clarke / Feargal Sharkey combo were called The Assembly who had a cracking one hit wonder with 'It never happens to me'....Your theme song Sean!

Whereas The Associates had an even better one hitter with 'Party Fears Too'!

So endeth todays ancient history lesson!!!
