Lauren Housley at Biddulph Town Hall, with an appearance by someone familiar....

Next gig should have been Sierra Hull, but I got an email from her UK agent this morning stating that the tour has been pulled because of changing COVID regulations...hoping to reschedule it for twelve months from now...had the fun task of informing all ticket buyers, cancelling accommodation, notifying the venue, cancelling the sound and dealing with e-mail enquiries...four days before the gig should have happened.

Last gig that I promoted this year was Honey Ryder supported by local singer Emily Lockett. An evening of well-played pop-country that went down well with the paying customers. All lovely people too, which always helps.

Next up it's RH at Buxton.

RH Buxton - nightmare drive over the moors in blackout-pea-souper fog but worth it once there. The lack of rehearsal didn't show - and if anything, it added an exciting edge to things! Got a small monitor speaker blocking my view partially, but that balanced out by having empty seats in front and either side so I didn't get Omicron-ed.

Penultimate gig of the year (I'm going to a wedding, COVID regs permitting on the 29th, where the couple have booked three local bands). One of the longest RH acoustic gigs I've attended and one of the most enjoyable, once I found a parking space and got in the venue - loved the covers of "Corrina Corrina" "River Boy" (sounded like it was learnt from the Waylon Jennings version rather than the Willie Nelson original?) and "Long Black Veil".

Last gig of the year was at a wedding of a friend - they are big supporters of local music and booked Cheshire's Field Manual (think Springsteen meets Neil Young, meets Jason Isbell) to play at the Artisan Tap, one of the best pub-venues in North Staffordshire, hence the spectacular in house lighting...and I didn't get COVID, despite circulating amongst everyone as the official photographer of the day...( I masked throughout).

First gig of 2022 was by the Jake Leg Jug Band at Audley Theatre, where they were recording a live album. I took loads of photos, but they're for the album art, so they're embargoed...

I was the MC at the 2022 Gloucester Cajun and Zydeco Festival, played in my own band (Elvis Fontenot) and depped in another band (Joe Le Taxi Zydeco) and took lots of photos.

It was the first anniversary of the death of my lifelong friend and Biddulph Up In Arms promoter, Craig Pickering, so we organised a cancer charity supporting tribute concert - 15 local acts played two songs each, one of their own choosing and one by a band/act that he liked. It was a fantastic night and we raised around £1.5k for the Dougie Mac and Cancer Research. As well as organising, I compered, performed and took photos. It was the least I could do....!

Next up at Biddulph was Michael Weston King at Biddulph Town Hall - MWK has a lot of previous with Biddulph and this is the second time he'd premiered a new album with us - this time it's his forthcoming solo album "The Struggle". Accompanying MWK was Clovis Phillips, on guitar who produced and played on the album. Fun fact - I'd played with Clovis a fortnight before at Gloucester Cajun & Zydeco Festival, while depping in Joe Le Taxi Zydeco Band, who Clovis plays bass with. It's a small musical world.

I was also there, on photo duty for Americana UK along with reviewer Clint West.

This would be a cracking venue for the RH acoustic experience...

Billy Strings - Islington Assembly Hall, first night of two. Headed down to London and stayed in a hotel across the road from Pentonville Prison.
Bluegrass on steroids and probably one of the most talented guitar players on Planet Earth at this moment.
