Masked up at the request of the artist, it was a strange one, for Robyn Hitchcock at the Foxlowe in Leek, but enjoyable all the same. Last time I'd seen Mr Hitchcock in the flesh, he was exiting the men's loo at the 5 Spot in Nashville (and I was standing next to Margo Price and REM's Mike Mills was a couple of feet away at the bar...that was a surreal evening..)
Highlight of the night was the singalong to "Brenda's Iron Sledge". Robyn Hitchcock was ably supported by Jessica Lee Morgan (daughter of Mary Hopkin and Tony Visconti).

Another one at the Foxlowe in Leek as part of their Americana festival -Jerry Joseph (he's lived a life and a half to be sure) -his last album was produced by and featured contributions from the Drive by Truckers and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. JJ was supported and aided by Our Man in the Field, who delivered excellent socially conscious acoustic songs of an Americana flavour.

Jesse Malin at The Maude in Leek, as part of the Leek Blues & Americana festival - the most rock'n'roll night in Leek since the Rolling Stones played there on Christmas Eve in 1963 and they got food poisoning from a dodgy pie that they ate.

Diana Jones in Biddulph - my first gig as promoter after the death of my mate Craig Pickering in February this year. All went according to script and I even managed some photos.

Next up with my promoter hat was one time folk musician of the year and all round good guy, Kris Drever - a good crowd and a great show. I showed him my photo of RH's pedalboard and he got gear envy -although he's not too short on pedals himself...

Billy Bragg last night in Gateshead, just brilliant.

What a wonderful human, full of nervous energy because of it being his first gig after lockdown, but the craic was still there.

Bit of old stuff and some brilliant new tracks from his upcoming release.

Highly recommend if he’s coming anywhere near.

Courtney Marie Andrews in Birmingham and in Glasgow - in Birmingham she was running on fumes, having only arrived in the country that morning after 4 hours of sleep, after delayed flights. She still put on a good show - Glasgow was a notch above again though - the combination of her performance, the venue (The Mackintosh Church) and a reverent audience gave it a huge wow factor.

Fourth and final time for Courtney Marie Andrews in Nottingham at the somewhat clinical Metronome venue. Every gig was a good chance to catch up with friends around the country as much as the music - but CMA was uniformally fantastic...

Next one with my promoter hat on was a double-header of Megan Dixon-Hood and John Blek - both lovely people and fantastic musicians. Far better than putting up with fireworks...

Next up is one promoted by our own Poppydog - MG Boulter, supported by James Biddulph Jr in Davenham, near Northwich.

Fantastic gig by the effervescent Emily Capell at Matt & Phred's in Manchester. Hugely catchy classic 60s pop/ska/surf and Emily just oozes charisma (and yes, that is a cardboard cutout of Jesse Lingard on stage)
