I'm going on Tuesday 19th March which iirc is the last of the preview nights. I wanted to go on 20th (opening night) but rung the Crucible and they said no can't even sell one ( all I need). Person above may be right, may all be on hold and only released once guests etc accommodated.
Either that or the forum is going en mass that night

At the Mastertapes session thus afternoon we were priveleged to hear a rendition of Open Up Your Door from the musical, it had a jazzy spin to the music (no jazz in Firth Park! :*: ), it really was quite beautiful!

I was lucky enough to get tickets for the public dress rehearsal last night. We really enjoyed it. I don’t generally like musicals, apart from the odd exception, but this was a proper drama with fantastic music that enriched the whole production. The music complemented, built on, reflected and enhanced the stories enacted on stage and took them to a higher level. I loved it.

At first it was a bit strange hearing other voices sing Mr H’s songs (particularly female) but once I got used to it I appreciated the different interpretations. Some of the actors had brilliant voices and the duets and choral pieces were fantastic. The band were wonderful but I sort of hoped Mr H (who was in the audience, doubtless making notes) would grab the guitar and give it the magic and wellie only he can! That is not to take anything away from the musicians who created some awesome sounds. I am sure, with it being a dress, that things may get tweaked a bit before the run (musically, technically and performance-wise) but it seemed spot on last night.

The three stories interweaved really well and the slick changes from one to another were very impressive. I liked the way we saw the two children from different families as adults as part of the story - it took me a bit of time to catch on but I got there in the end! There was comedy, tragedy, politics, pathos - everything a good drama needs. There were some good Sheffield in-jokes, including Sheffield Wednesday (and my husband noticed a particularly obnoxious minor character had a Blades badge on his arm :*:) and Hendo’s getting a starring role! And of course the music. Sublime. There were a couple of songs I hadn’t heard before but if they are from the new album I can’t wait to hear the rest.

The show started and ended with one of my favourite Hawley songs - As the Dawn Breaks - performed beautifully. If you can go and haven’t booked tickets, do so soon, they are rightly selling out quickly. Well done to everyone involved - it were a reight good night! :Hoorah :Hoorah

I am just back from the Crucible and feeling completely blown away by what I've just seen and heard.
Disclaimer - I was in seat A17 so right up close and personal with the acted aspect. The sound came from a "gallery" style ensemble, largely invisible from me low down by the stage, but possibly visible from the higher/back auditorium seats.
For me, the invisible sound backdrop to the play made it more special as I wasn't stressing about the sound. The fact was the songs were delivered in perfect "alternative" style. It was neither Richard or a stage musical - it wove the story of the three or four storylines that ran through the piece.
And if you are expecting lots of Sky's Edge tracks, you must be prepared for more than that. An eclectic mix of some of the best RH tracks selected to enhance the mood and storyline. I won't name the songs, it will spoil it for anyone reading. They are ALL exceptional, delivered by a variety of the cast. One of the lead men does such a good job on one particularly autobiographical of Richard's it is emotionally harrowing.
The lead females are all A1 in their own right. They take the songs confidently and one particularly soulfully. Gives you a completely different perspective on how Richard delivers them, but SO powerfully.
The story itself is moving- it's about community. It's about deprivation. It's about longing. It's about love that's either failing, lost, or beset with life's challenges. It's about normality, and that's what makes it special.

Chris Bush I salute you for getting this job done.
Cast I thank you for your special delivery of the story
Crucible, you put on a great spectacle
And Richard - thanks for the music and opening up the soul of part of your home city

God bless everyone who had anything to do with this, it was fabulous.

Actor 1
“you like Sheffield Wednesday more than her”
Response Actor 2
“I like Sheffield United more than her”

Classic. You can hear Richard telling it.....
