Very happy to announce Standing At The Sky's Edge, the musical, which will run at the Crucible in Sheffield from 14 March to 6 April 2019.
The show will feature a mix of old and new songs by Richard as it spans 50 years in the lives of Sheffield's Park Hill residents.
Book by Michael Wynne
Music and Lyrics by Richard Hawley
Directed by Robert Hastie
From an original idea by Matthew Dunster

hmmmmmmmmmmmm. my wife and i go away every year for our anniversary, 17 Mar. and since it is obvious that Sir Richard will never venture back to the states.... what are the odds i can convince her to do Sheffield next year?

This is probably a stupid question, but does anyone know if Richard actually performs the songs for the performances live, or are they recorded in advance :?:

richard is writing the songs, the cast will perform them - he might release or perform recorded versions of the songs at some point

This is up on the Sheffield Theatres website now:

https://www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk/whats-on/standing-at-the-skys-edge/dates

Tickets on sale 10 am on 24 March 2018

But strangely the first (non-preview) date of 20 March 2019 is showing as "sold out"

Opening night possibly reserved until they know how many press, friends and family of cast etc. are going to attend before they put tickets for sale.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm going and despite seeing Mr Hawley many times, it'll be my first visit to Sheffield. Anyone recommend a BnB close to Greystones Pub or any 'must do's while there? Any inside track would be much appreciated.

Greystones is quite a way out of the centre - not really walkable from there and up a massive hill. I'd suggest that you stay in the centre and travel out to Greystones if you need to, rather than the other way round. There are the usual Premier Inn-type places etc in the centre. Last time I stayed over (for the "Get off my tree" benefit) I stayed at the Best Western Sheffield City Centre Cutlers Hotel which is within easy reach (about 100 yards) of the Crucible and a 5-10 minute stroll to Fagan's. It's in a quiet backstreet and a nice place. If you like a pint, then Fagan's and the Kelham Island Brewery should be on your list. Locals like Craig and Maggie will know far more than me though.
