Booked into Beadnell for half term as Richard will be in Spain and the finances dont strech that far...

Hopefully will be overcast with rain - occasional glimpses of the sun and a wind chill factor of -10 - that way both Samantha myself and the dogs will be happy :)

I would like to visit Northumberland this year. I have wanted to go there for a while, maybe I will get there this time. :D

I haven't been to this part of the world for many years now, and would dearly like to return - in fact we recently discussed renting a cottage somewhere near the coast (Bamburgh maybe) over the next Christmas period for a change.

His Lordship is convinced Bamburgh is by rights his ancestral home as his branch of Armstrong is the real one and that lot that are there at the moment are usurpers
Of course there's no proof...

Will be going up here in a couple of weeks, can anyone recommend some nice places to dine? Staying at Seahouses but travelling up & down the coast for a few days so would appreciate some reviews of good eateries to try if possible. Ta :Oink:

We were staying in Spittal near Berwick the other week and had a drive down the coastal route to Morpeth - taking in Seahouses and Beadnell.

One of the bigger pubs in Seahouses - by the mini roundabout as you take the road to Beadnell - appeared to have been split into three smaller eating places - so Seahouses itself will have lots to offer - Indian / Italian / Chinese plus a few top quality chippies and several pubs / hotels that offer decent value for money meals.

Bamburgh down the road a few miles is probably more 'upmarket' - the Lord Crewe being my favourite.

Beadnell again down the road [opposite direction to Bamburgh] has the Craster Arms - that does really great pub grub - across the road from which is the Beadnell Towers Hotel.

Belford [inland a few miles across the A1] has the Blue Bell Hotel and The Salmon - although the village appeared to have been hit more by the recession than other places - which was sad - as its one of my favourite places.

Chatton [inland a few more miles across the A1] has the Percy Arms - which along with the Lord Crewe has 'presence' ie] wood panelled restaurant room etc - but I haven't been there for about ten years so I couldn't vouch for it in 2011.

My personal favourite is the Viking Fish and Chip Cafe in Seahouses - followed by a visit to the Olde Ship Inn for an after dinner bifter or three...

Have a good time!

Thankyou, plenty of places to try out there shouldn't go hungry anyway. Really looking forward to it as only ever been up there as far as Newcastle on boozy nights out & a very weird weekend in New Biggin once.
