Last night the missus and I went up the Ace Cafe to see The Roomates. I'd not been before so didn't know what to expect. I sold my motorbike a couple of years ago when dustbin lid number two came along so I felt a bit of a plonker arriving in me Volvo
What a cool place though, quite basic but the music was great, even though there was no Guinness I consoled myself with a pint or three of Murphys. The place was full of vertiginous quiffs and you could smell the Brylcreem and the oil in the air.
The band was great - such a tight sound, it was clear they'd been together quite a while. I really enjoyed their set. Even the wife (who I dragged along for the night) was really impressed. "It's *proper* music, it's lovely" she said. They swapped lead vocalists a few times as well, all very talented guys. I can't sing to save my life but I can only imagine it must be a great feeling to sing with those tight vocal harmonies behind you.
The 'stage' was too small - in a hot and sweaty corner of the bar. I took a few snaps but it was bloody difficult due to no room whatsoever (oh, and I forgot to bring any other lenses with me, that as well...). A bigger venue would have been great but that said, it was a great atmosphere.
Here's a couple of pictures of the lads. Well worth checking out if they're gigging near you.
Oh, and the Cafe bangers and mash was brilliant BTW.
