get a map, book the campsite at the bottom of gordale scar off the farmer (you'll find it online Tel: 01729 830333) and in the morning, climb up the waterfall (its a path marked on the o.s. map) and over the hill to the top of malham cove, climb down the steps and marvel at the cove, then have your dinner in a pub in the village and walk back to the campsite through janet's foss......

magical.

You can't beat the Dales. I have booked a log cabin for a week in July, stones throw from Aysgarth Falls. I will be in seventh heaven. We'll travel the scenic route, to my mind you don't get better scenery than on the road from Ingleton to Hawes.

It's a gorgeous spot that, was talking about it the other day and racking my brain trying to remember the name. Was only about 16 when i went and it feels like a hell of a long time ago! I'm hankering to get my tent out.

I'm with you here Maggie. Bought all the stuff, beautiful camp site in North
Wales.......this isn't too bad! 2 in the morning, people were out in the
pissing rain trying to stop their tents blowing away!

But the thing that capped it for me was trying to wash a greasy frying pan
in cold water!

Oh, and I got a bollocking for leaving the bog roll in the shit house!

Never again! Tent on Ebay! :D

Tents are the wrong way to go, Egg. My other half, never happy unless he can see at least one thing that is concrete, just won't go camping anymore. We went to Wales a couple of years ago with our tent, and he was fucking moaning all the way there, and I was trying to say cheer up, how bad can it be? And then on the second night a storm came in that had us banging tent pegs into the ground at 3 in the morning, in the rain, in our pants. And the kids were crying and asking to go home. And then the tent pole snapped in two and the whole thing collapsed on top of us. And in the morning, when the wind died down, we crawled out of our pile of rags and it was like a scene out of Mad Max. Semi-naked people crawling about, trying to salvage a tiny bit of their holiday from a pile of sodden coco pops and large amounts of gaffer tape. And blokey says, if you ever make me go on a camping holiday again, I'm leaving you. And after a split second of thinking, that might be quite a cheap deal in the scheme of things, I says only if you let me buy a camper van. And so it came to pass. Not sleeping on the ground, not pissing in a bush at 2 in the morning, no soggy teabags.

Anyway, I love these threads – it's holiday porn. You all know such lovely places. We should have a cheeky weekend together. I can make ice in my fridge...

Husband and daughter no 2 went to Monsal Head yesterday - the tunnels are open - they had a fab time - I stayed at home! It is beautiful there and very easy underfoot for the more clumsy of us!
