Holy sweet mother of all things brilliant! This sounds truly excellent! I did my higher (A level) book report on The Van back in 1998! I love Roddy Doyle!!

Can someone attending give us all a review please? Pretty please!

The whole night featured a few short sets from various musicians. Richard was introduced by Aidan Gillen as the person Roddy Doyle most wanted to appear at the event. No band, but Shez Sheridan was accompanist. Four tunes: I'm on Nights, Tonight the Streets are Ours, Lady Solitude, For Your Lover Give Some Time. Also included a very touching tribute to the late DJ Tony Fenton who was a friend of Richards. Few funny anecdotes in there too which won over the crowd (judging by reactions, and my company for the evening, they were mostly Glen Hansard fans). Great to see Richard play, hopefully it won't be too long before he's back over.

This was a particular highlight, though I think she got her wires crossed and sang the Johnny Ray song, not the one in the book. All the better I say.
