The Valiants and the Owls are playing each other in a pre-season friendly tonight - first game at home in front of fans for us Vale fans for 514 days. I gather Wednesday are bringing a few - for any who are attending, best place to stop off for a drink on the way there or back is in Leek - loads of pubs. I recommend the Cock Inn - tell the landlord Alan Ward that I sent you. The Roebuck across the road is decent too. The ones round the corner on the market square aren't so good.

Unfortunately, the best pub in Burslem, The Leopard, closed down due to the Covid/Brexit double-whammy and shows no signs of re-opening. The Duke William is a decent drinker's pub but might get a bit lairy if they hear Yorkshire accents. Avoid the New Inn...

2-1 to the Owls - first half was pretty even but the second got scrappy with millions of substitutions by both sides - Wednesday's winner came immediately after a Vale double substitution and there was confusion over who was picking up who.
539 Wednesday fans made the trip and were in good voice - good luck for the coming season!
