I am inclined to believe it too. Behind that powerful presence was a deep thinking 'MAN' - his music said it all.

absolutely - a massive body of work which runs the whole gamut of human thinking, from murder and revenge to spiritual questioning of faith. Few have achieved such a body of work.

i've voted for Elvis purely on preference.

I prefer Elvis.

I'm not saying Mr Cash isn't great but i've always been more of an Elvis man.

Really? My favourite JC song (my favourite, not the best) - bet Elvis didn't hit the "love" in "I saw that giant of a man brought down to his knees by LOVE" nearly as well though.

Has to be JC for me. Many reasons (songwriting, interpretation, support for causes), but the drop dead clincher being that Johnny Cash was on the Muppets when I was growing up (I might have mentioned this before :) ) and Elvis wasn't. Mainly through being dead.

I thought this thread was initially about Jesus vs Elvis, anyway

Johnny Cash defo, Elvis was a fantastic entertainer, but Johnny Cash has to win hands down for me, an amazing songwriter who never compromised even when it may have benefited his career in the long run. He was the real deal.

In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.
