So this Windows 10, then. Do I want it? Is it worth downloading the free offer? Will it bugger anything up? What benefits will it bring? :eh?

Don't rush to download, the free offer is available for a while. I'm waiting for my old IT work colleagues to feed back how they are finding it before considering a change.

Read this and there's a link within the article to try Windows 10 out on a virtual machine.

That looks interesting. I might try out the virtual machine...thingy. Not 100% sure I know what I'm doing, mind you. I'll look over the weekend when I'm more awake.

My sister was swearing about it the other day so I guess not. You've still got a long way to go before the free offer expires, if it ever does.

I've done the download + installation Lofty without problem - and I'm as thick as two short planks when it comes to IT.

The whole process for me (not on superfast broadband) took almost three hours and during the process you need to keep an eye on your computer screen in case of prompts. It all went smoothly, all my folders and files were safely moved over, and, despite published articles to the contrary, I still appear to have Windows Media Player on the system. However, apart from the main windows 10 main menus appearing visually different from my previous windows 7 version, I really don't find much difference in actually using the new system. But then again I'm not a very adventurous computer user. Those who are may have other comments to add.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for that. I'm not an adventurous computer person either :D I've done the download, but not the installation yet, as I'm not sure I'm up for a change to windows 8, which now I'm used to it, after years of XP, I like. Glad to know Media Player is there though.

Man, I don't want to be that person. Somebody came up with a great name for them. Macholes? Appholes? I don't recall. Anyway, I'm not a cult member and I do have a lot of ethics issues, but I have to jump onto the Mac pile. Sure there's hitches and glitches, and it's not like people can afford to go out and replace all their shit overnight, but after we became Mac users in our house we decided you would pry them out of our cold dead hands. I know, that's fucking insufferable. But I feel your Windows pain and that is why I will never go back. Okay, I'm going now. I know.

Maybe when this one expires I'll think about getting one.

Not changing now. I'm such an old bugger I prefer to stick with the familiar.
