I was listening to Les Fleurs - an outstanding Minnie Ripperton anthology on Stateside - yesterday and was quite impressed with her cover of Light My Fire. It got me to thinking, though, that it's a song that's been covered by quite a few artists, in various styles.

So, which is your fave? Mine's - believe it or not - the Shirley Bassey version (stop laughing at the back!). Big strings, big voice, BIG SONG!

Oh, and Ella Fitzgerald doing Sunshine of Your Love... brilliant!

I've only heard the Doors and Jose Feliciano's version, and of course the horror of that nameless cock who recently charted with it(in EXACTLY the same style as Feliciano's)would like to hear the others though.Has anyone ever heard"Purple Haze"by Dion?

Born to be with you is awesome notre kid,in fact fuck it,right lets do this proprely who likes:-

Dillard and Clark-The fantastic expedition of Dillard and Clark?

Tim Rose-Morning dew?

John d Loudermilk-Language of love?

The Everly brothers-Gone Gone Gone?

Jan and Dean-Popsicle?

Gene Clark-No other

"" "" "" ""_White Light

the list goes on of the true greats and do you know whats really sad?

No cunts heard most of the stuff i/we like,it absolutely does my head in.Cos really it should be"Oh right then Mr Loudermilk that'll be a work of staggering genious then, off you pop to the top of the charts for all eternity"

But no we have these people who languish in poverty and debt and die in horrible situations cos there's no room for them cos it's all taken up by vapid wank that if i wrote i'd fucking kill me self.

Happy Happy xxxxx.

Been on the sauce, our kid?! :*:

I have the Everly Brothers' Albert Hall reunion gig on CD, and that is the fuckin' dogs... pure genius right there. If we're talking about covers, then The Price of Love should be on your list...

Gene Clark is a legend. Gram Parsons was cool, but Gene Clark WAS The Byrds... No Other would have to be in my Top 10 of all time.

Tell you what, though, don't even get me started on Santo and Johnny. Or Ricky Nelson. Billy fuckin' Fury.

So, what you're saying is you don't like S Club 7 then?

The argument record companies trot out is that the really commercial stuff funds more left field/little known aritistes. Is this true or a load of old wank?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The charts are populated with shite aimed at pre pubescent girls who don't know shit from clay.

By the way Mr H, just bought Hope Sandoval on your recommendation. Good work! I really like it.

Cheers Ernie!

I encountered Mazzy Star whilst looking at Hope Sandoval's site. Another thing to pass to my girlfriend to buy me for my birthday!

I've also just got Jane Weavers album after seeing her support Hawley at the Leadmill. Class album.

On an entirely disparate note, where have the two erstwhile lovebirds gone from this site? They've completely vanished!

Christ almighty.

As for Feckle, who knows?

He's an enigma.

Or an annoying twat.

Take your pick.
