Ok Mr Pedantic!!! If you had to chose one which you'd MAINLY buy from!!

I also buy from various sources, I used to use Play.com loads and have just registered again, I'm awaiting delivery of 'The Fitzgerald' as I speak. My vote though will have to go to High St, but not the biggies. The last half dozen discs I've bought have been either from Music Zone or Fopp, but these shops are part of a chain so not indies.

Independent. Almost exclusively. Although I do rummage the bargain bins at chains.

Do folks think it 'uncool' to buy from the biggies?? If HMV are knocking out back catalogue stuff for 4 or 5 quid then I have no qualms whatsoever in parting with he moolar!

Which shops do you class as 'independant'???

Tower Records, Record Collector (George the owner is a big Hawley fan) , The Secret Book And Record Store, Amazon...

I never buy from HMV if I can avoid it as they are a shower of robbing bastards.

I dont think you can class Amazon as an independant. I've never bough off there .........the delivery charge always used to put me off. If I'm online its generally Play.com.

I generally only use Amazon if I am after something which I cant find elsewhere, its good like that. I like the Tower Records in Dublin cause the staff are dead sound and you can nearlly always get what your after from them. The Secret Book & Record Store has a great collection of Reggae and its very good value. Record Collector I have been going to for years. The owner George is a character and he is also a massive fan of Mr. H as I said earlier.

When I'm home I buy everything at Fopp, but here, I have to used the big stores like Target and Best Buy. I even use iTunes once in a while for the albums that don't get released over here straight away.

Anticipate that Record Collector will be getting a vastly increased portion of my cash now it's on my way home form work - though Selectadisc in Nottingham still has that spiritual connection with my record-buying needs.

But i'm quite happy to use the high st shops when I'm feeing lazy - Fopp and Virgin are better than HMV in Sheffield at least (not in Manchester/London though). And like everyone else - Amazon to fill the gaps.

Amazon (buy 2 and postage is free) for stuff that's harder to get in the shops, or just when the prices are good, the independant shop near work when the price is right or i end up buying on impulse, HMV etc. in the sales, and Fopp/Music Zone when i lose my senses and usually even more money...

There are few chains over here, but not only are they at least €3 overpriced, they also manage to have a smaller selection in a bigger store. And they only stock what's on commercial radio.

Two out of three times something that's not 'popular' is ignored and lands in the bargain bins. That way I got Pulp's We Love Life for €2,50!

We've got an independent shop around here that's run by four guys (and stock the strangest things) and not a chain. Dark, dusty and sell almost everything (incl. vinyl, second hands), are nice, remember your name and gladly recommend things if you ask them. I also go straigth to the distributor. They'll slash €4-10 off the price.
