Caitlin Rose and Kassi Valazza necessitated a stop-over in Manchester, but well worth it. Caitlin Rose Kassi Valazza Then I crossed the Irish sea again to visit Kilkenny for the 25th Roots Festival - I've played 6 of them as one of the acts on the free Music Trail with my band Elvis Fontenot and attended as many as a punter. Highlights this time for me were the exuberant Fantastic Cat, Kassi Vallaza (again), Chuck Prophet and Austin Lucas. Fantastic Cat Kassi Valazza Austin Lucas Chuck Prophet |

Nashville's Eric Brace & Thomm Jutz shared lots of anecdotes about Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris in their performance for Biddulph up in Arms - melodic songs, great harmonies and fine picking. |

Black Deer Festival - first two days - brilliant weather. last day it pissed it down and half the audience buggered off. Brennen Leigh and Melissa Carper were wonderful: The full Hawley quota Amanda Shires Allison Russell The hard-working Northern Cowboys crew The Pretenders Then I got home, re-packed my bags and went to see Bruce Springsteen in Dusseldorf I then attended the Down by the River Festival in Venlo in the Netherlands with Dietmar & Marion Leibecke, main organisers of the Static Roots Festival in Oberhausen that I've stayed in Germany for - I also attended a local mini-festival in a park in Mulheim an der Ruhr with them, where a rockabilly band, the Silverettes, played. Bonus gig tonight is Canadian singer-songwriter Jim Bryson in Haldern, Germany. |

John Bramwell at the half moon, putney, sunday afternoon. what a great gig, he is so good live and in a small venue, about 200, you are right there. Brilliant. Rh and Shez, acoustic set there would be bang on!!. Hope everyone is well and happy. |

I promoted Hannah Aldridge & Robbie Cavanagh for Biddulph up in Arms at St Lawrence's Church. Both are local faves and didn't disappoint. |

I photographed all three days of the North Shropshire Big Weekend - a cajun and zydeco festival in the middle of the countryside, featuring top Louisiana/US and European cajun and zydeco acts. This year, Corey Ledet and Latasha "Dat Zydeco Gurl" Covington represented the US zydeco fraternity, with Cameron Fontenot and Austin Monceaux the cajun side - Cameron and Austin's luggage remained in Atlanta unfortunately so they had to go and buy some replacement clothing. Fortunately their instruments made it. I attended the Boygenius gig at Halifax Piece Hall with my two nieces. I was probably the second oldest person there (My mate from Morecambe who was also there is older than me...) |

I then photographed The Long Road Festival, near Rugby. Stayed in a right dodgy hotel, but as I was hardly there, it didn't matter too much. Lillie Mae, playing with Jim Lauderdale The outstanding French country crooner Theo Lawrence The War and Treaty - stunning! The return of the wonderful Sierra Ferrell |

Courtney Marie Andrews - Future Yard Birkenhead. Great little venue, but a trek to get to in the car with it being a train strike day. CMA hasn't disappointed me yet and she definitely didn't do on this occasion. |

Charley Crockett and Ags Connolly at the Band on the Wall in Manchester. Didn't get a reply about photo accreditation in time, so I took this on a compact camera. As for the gig - honky tonk country, roots and soul with punk intensity. |
