NO!!!!!! Sorry Feckle, t'other way round! I had to try to sell all of Hornby's turgid books to unsuspecting folk because the 4 people in the marketing department of the chain where I worked prayed at the altar of Hornby! Every other employee was at the same time standing round saying "Where the fuck are we going to put this month's consignment of Hornby". He was "author of the month", "author of the year", in every halfbaked promotion going! I can imagine the meetings: "Now that Christmas is over, what are we going to promote?" " Well, we done gardenin nad history the last two spring campaigns, lets do great thinkers" "Excellent idea. Lets make a list" "Nick Hornby, Freud, Nietsche............." See what happens when you get me started Feckle!!! On the other hand, the film reflects the fact that John Cusack can do no wrong........ |

Its not a BAD film, and John Cussack and that Black fellow hold it together.....but it should have been set where it was written about with English actors, as the book references loads of top British music! Don't try and mend what ain't broken! |

Yes, but no-one in their right mind would have funded a fillum which refers to a load of British music the seppos have never heard of.... Hornby, as I've ranted about, is about as commercial an author as you can get so it's obviously a pretty good idea to make a commercial movie....... Still, I think the book is a load of Tosh  and the movie was entertaining, if not up to the aesthetic ideallism of Feckle :MONA

Don't worry yourself Al, I must confess that I dont read as much as I should! I've only read 'Hi Fidelity' by Hornby. I enjoyed 'Man & Boy' by Tony Parsons but his next was cack! I am a bit of a fan of Roddy Doyle and await his next part of the 'Star called Henry' trilogy.....any ideas when thats due??? |

I would just like to point out that I am indeed one of the hallowed few who won a very lovely blue peter badge. What's more I earned this honour by guessing how many animals were on Simon Groom's farm. And ever since I've been able to get into the Heights of Abraham, Pets Corner and other assorted delights for the bargainous sum of zero pence. I was also working at BBC Sheffield until May this year and told this tale to the man himself, but frankly, he wasn't very impressed. |

Thats probably because he knows how many animals he's got on his own farm and probably gets mightily pissed at people saying "Hey Simon, I've got a BP badge" or "Hows Goldie?" I thought your tale was fascinating! Do you get free entry to The Spearmint Rhino or Stringfellows?? |

I have a mate who owned a Labrador from the same family as one of those guide dogs they used to give away on BP. Only problem was that my mate's mutt was totally deranged.......I'd have loved to see them cope with that one! |
