It's 8 years since the first WagonWheel show this week. This'll be the first show of year nine. A Saturday night and it'll barely cost you more than the price of a pint. Moons on sticks still unavailable.

On Saturday November 1st, WagonWheel Presents… brings another fine triple bill to the Shakespeares stage. Making their WagonWheel debut we have The Fargo Railroad Co. and there are welcome returns for The Farewell State and Mordrake. Advance tickets priced at £3 (+ booking fee) are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/292334 or entry on the night will be £4. Doors open 8pm.

Jody and Mike wanted to start a County Rock / Americana styled band based around the songs they had been writing, Mike mentioned this to Andy who was immediately interested, even more so when he had the chance to meet Leon’s playing at which point the line-up was fixed (Leon just didn’t know it yet) as Andy insisted he should be the drummer (or else!).

Our first get together / rehearsal / jam was ‘way back’ in last December and immediately there was an ease of playing together followed by much grinning!

Jody has been singing and playing all over the place for a good few years, his song writing style is kind of storyteller and despite being from Conisbrough his singing voice sounds anything but!

Leon (Jody’s brother) has drummed up and down the country with a variety of rock/hard rock and ABBA tribute acts.

Mike plays the geetar and is responsible for the pleasing electric geetar noises be they bendy, swirly or angular.

Finally there’s Andy, who’s played a bit of bass here n there over the last 20years or so… and is a bit of an audio geek. Helping us create our sound and slowly craft it into a pleasing sound.

The Texas dive bar Southern Rock of The Fargo Railroad Co. was born.

***THE FAREWELL STATE***

Image

Starting out as one voice from local widescreen rock outfit The Letter, with influences ranging from the likes of Fugazi and Afghan Whigs to Sparklehorse and My Morning Jacket, The Farewell State was originally an outlet for new songs of Simon Roberts. Having now morphed into an instrument-swapping Alt-country/rock four piece, channelling the sounds of the likes of Bon Iver, Ryan Adams and even Neil Finn into the mix, the band are crafting something that lasts with noise and melody.

***MORDRAKE***

Image

From the heavenly fields of Leeds comes a thunderous force that will blow your face off and then put it back on again, upside down. Mordrake are here, and it feels as though the world has woken from a coma. When God said “let there be light!” what he really meant was “let there be Mordrake!” And there was.

With the angelic pure tone of “celestial” Katy Raine’s unique voice, backed to amazing effect by Johnny Hart’s timeless, brooding cacophony, Mordrake embrace both good and evil and turn the combination back into… Mordrake. Mo’s timeless percussion settles beneath the songs like a snow-topped peak reaching into an infinite sunset. Forget The Beatles. Forget the invention of the wheel. Put away your bibles, turn off your televisions and rise from your sofas. Mordrake have come. And there’s going to be an almighty mess.

Last year they released debut album Every Shadow Is A Ghost.

Slow, introspective Americana that delivers an emotional punch with the whitest of gloves.” – Sloucher.org
