On Saturday June 1st, WagonWheel Presents… returns to The Greystones with a fabulous double bill of Anglo-Italian rock ‘n’ roll. Recently named ‘Best Live Act’ at the Sheffield Scenester awards and set to release their debut EP ‘History Of Violence‘ are local boys Roaming Son. Joining them will be our old friends from Italy Stiv Cantarelli & The Silent Strangers who return to the UK in support of their brand new album ‘Black Music/White Music‘. They’re also set to release a new EP, ‘Three Sides‘. Advance tickets priced at just £4 are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/200334 and over the bar at The Greystones (12-6pm daily). Entry on the night will be £5. Doors open 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

***ROAMING SON***

Roaming Son are a Sheffield based band that mix earthy heartfelt vocals with twangy dirty guitars, greasy bass and jungle drums to create a sound that is influenced by the classic rock’n’roll recordings of the 50′s / 60′s but while adding a distinctive modern flavour. From brash to beautiful, the sound of chainsaws & rainbows. The band recently recorded their debut EP ‘History Of Violence’ at Sheffield’s Club 60 studios and it is released this month.

***STIV CANTARELLI & THE SILENT STRANGERS***

Image

If you were lucky enough to catch Stiv Cantarelli and his band The Silent Strangers on tour in the UK in February, you’ll know that they’re a highly potent force. Fusing wide-open Americana with front-porch Delta blues, delivered with the ferocity of punk, Cantarelli brings the influences of his eclectic tastes to bear on a live show that nods in equal parts towards Son House, Neil Young, The Stooges and The Who, not to mention similarly inclined blues-channelling Australian rock legends The Birthday Party and The Scientists. All delivered on an electrified 1934 thrift-store acoustic, backed by locomotive rhythm section Antonio Perugini and Fabrizio Gramellini. If you missed it, pick up the album Black Music / White Music for barely bolted-down living-room listening. And get ready for action!

Spurred on by the success of those shows, and the media love heaped on the album, Stiv and The Strangers venture out from their retreat in Italy’s Romagna hills for another round of dates at the end of May.

The tour will be accompanied by the Three Sides EP, the title a tip-of-the-cap to Keith Moon’s ’75 solo album. Featuring the album tracks ‘Mahogany Jones’ and ‘Hundred Thousand Stones’, alongside a brand new song ‘Ten Minutes’ Drive’, the EP will be released digitally by Stovepony Records and distributed by Cargo from Tuesday 28 May, but special limited edition tour CDs featuring three different cover designs and different track order will be available at gigs at a recession-busting snip.

A long night’s ramble through the musical fleshpots of the soul… The urge to listen again is powerful. 4/5R2 Magazine

A really fascinating album…. It will reward the time you give it. Stiv Cantarelli & The Silent Strangers take a no compromise approach to their recording and long term it definitely pays off.FATEA

Cantarelli has grown into a bluesman whose songs can break your heart, while also sounding like they could handle themselves in a bar room brawl.Classic Rock Blues

This is going to be a whole bunch of awesome (as the kids might say) for just a fiver (or cheaper if you buy in advance). Plus opening the show will be Dirdsbead.

***DIRDSBEAD***

A relatively new face to Sheffield, Dirdsbead takes inspiration from the likes of Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Bert Jansch plus some more contemporary artists such as Elvis Perkins, Josh T. Pearson and Sharon Van Etten. Having previously played in bands, this new project brings his own personal take on all things music and life and has already resulted in the release of his debut EP.
