Assuming that we'd all want to put RH up there - that's why we're here - what were your top 5 non-Hawley gigs of this year?
Here are mine...

1. Trampled by Turtles, Hare & Hounds Birmingham

2. Amanda Shires - Cleere's Kilkenny

3. Hank 3 - Manchester Hop & Grape

4. Nic Jones - Warwick Folk Festival

5. The Carrivick Sisters -Beverley Folk Festival

Duane Eddy

Colorama

Neil McSweeney

T G Elias

Whitehorse

Actually including RH I don't think I caught many others.

Although Rachel Harrington was this year - Whitehorse nicks it by having a neat support act  ...

Then again Rachel's support was quite bazzin' arrrrrgh :-?

<shit - I left out Ian Hunter / Otis Gibbs - and I saw them five times - and Verden Allen's Softground - three times - and Nick Lowe -can we make it a top ten... >

I haven't done many gigs this year so

Fingersnap (David McAlmont and Guy Davies) Leicester Square Theatre

Mark Lanegan Shepherds Bush Empire

Damon Albarn's Dr Dee at the ENO

Guess I can anticipate Lanegan in December will go on this list :D

He'd be in there for me too, but RH turned up, so I classed that as a Hawley gig ;)

in no specific order at all...

The Low Anthem - Whelans

The band were months done with promoting their previous record on the road and just came to Whelans in a louder rawer state of mind while still encompassing those magic hair or your neck sort of quieter moments as they do.

Ryan Bingham - Whelans

Just went along as a friend of mine hasnt seem him before. I had but wasnt all that impressed 1st go but in town with a new 4 piece band they delivered country rock so loud and tight that I dont think I've seen before or since. And I've seen the Drive-By Truckers.

Dawes - Academy 2

No chance in hell will this band ever come to these parts and play to just 200 people in the tiny Academy 2. First time seeing them, loved and fell in love to their albums and they seriously didn't dissapoint just exceeded everything I could expect from ANY live band, joyful.

Band Of Horses - The Olympia

3rd time to see them. They had to impress over last time out in Paris which was maybe the best gig I've ever been to. Lets just say they were running very close until that enore from the vip boxes that just showed how much and why this band are loved.

Kathleen Edwards - Academy 2

Again like Dawes no way she should be in that tiny venue. Stupidly turned up without tickets and it was sold out. No spares in site, got chatting to the security as you do on the blag etc. no dice.First chords sound " ehhh lads off you go in a few guestlist not arrived"

Honerable mentions to the Forbidden Fruit Festival including Wilco's set. Those guys again in The Grand Rex Paris even if I was dying of a manky cold. A Winged Victory For The Sullen , Joe Pug & The Felice Brothers

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

Are there no more gigs before 2013 now? :D I've never understood why end of year lists (i mean generally not just this one!) aren't actually done at the end of the year...

Only got one more in the diary before Christmas and that's Mark Lanegan - suppose there is an outside chance it might be better than Shepherd's Bush - I'll let you know!

I know this will show my mainstream, unadventurous tastes, but here goes:

David Ford at York House Concerts - 70 ppl crammed into the front room and kitchen of someone's cottage. Very different and intimate experience and one I can't wait to repeat.

Anais Mitchell at The Greystones - had some good recommendations so took a punt and went along. The temperature of the room meant it felt like trial by sauna but some beautiful music from a very unusual voice - particularly loved the emotional I Wear Your Dress

Neil McSweeney at the Lantern Theatre recently - felt like I was hearing his stuff for the first time and was so wrapped up in the performance, to my regret didn't take any videos

Parlotones at Manchester Academy - as the singer said, the only place he knows where 200 ppl can make themselves sound like 2,000. Gotta love a Manc crowd - turned into one massive singalong - and for once I didn't mind one bit.

Native and the Name album launch at Montgomery Theatre, Sheffield - a really talented brother/sister/brother group who only do a couple of shows a year so these are always something I look forward to.

And lastly (and this makes 6 I know) Ron Sexsmith at the Picturehouse in Edinburgh. Had a great self I indulgent weekend topped by a great night of music. A good start to 2012.

Yep - if I can stalk Ian Hunter for a few gigs - it's only fair that Ron gets the same treatment come 2013 ..>

Mmmmmmm.........difficult!

Radiohead - MENA
It's Radiohead.....nuff said!

The Vaccines - Dony Dome
Great albums, fantastic live, a right laugh, and this goes into my top 5 of all time!

The Killers - Sheffield Arena
Strange start with all the lights on but then wow, blown away, great crowd....for once!

Elbow - Nottingham Arena
Only the other night but straight in. Just an all-round top gig.

Morrissey - MENA
Back in Manc for the first time in 3 years.....should have smashed it, didn't, but still fookin ace!

Special mention for Lisa Hannigan at the Hawley gigs........sublime.

One last thing, Chris Isaak - Bridgewater Hall...........WTF! Speechless!
