On Friday September 28th, WagonWheel Presents… once again brings three great bands to Shakespeares. Joining us this time around we have twangy rock ‘n’ roll from Roaming Son, alt-country psych from Walton Hesse and some old time country folk from Grassoline. Advance tickets priced at £3 are available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/181139 or entry on the night will be £4. Doors open 7.45pm.

***ROAMING SON***

Roaming Son are a Sheffield based band that mix earthy heartfelt vocals with twangy dirty guitars, greasy bass and jungle drums to create a sound that is influenced by the classic rock’n’roll recordings of the 50′s / 60′s but while adding a distinctive modern flavour. From brash to beautiful, the sound of chainsaws & rainbows.

***WALTON HESSE***

Image

Burst into being from the sunny imagination of songwriter Matt Grayson, Walton Hesse are a lapsed congregation of optimistic outcasts standing on the shoulders of Big Star and Wilco, peering into the shaft of a 13th Floor Elevator.

Frontier facing and burdened by a twisted nostalgia this alt-country psych creation blend melodious harmonies, haunted by the ghostly union of Gram and Emmylou to bring Arizona desert plains to the streets of Manchester.

Walton Hesse have been friends forever, born of a chance encounter and a ten year love affair the North Mancunian scum scrub up golden in the sunshine, blend MC5, Creedance and Hank Williams to shake the peaches from your dusty tree. Walton Hesse make you homesick for a place you’ve never lived… so don’t look now, listen, and bring it home.

***GRASSOLINE***

Chesterfield’s Grassoline play a bluegrass influenced brand of alt-country featuring guitar, double bass, fiddle, banjo and mandolin. Late last year they released their debut CD “Mountain & Grave”. Americana UK described the 6 tracks as having “the makings of something really special”. We wouldn’t disagree.

Grassoline are not made for these times. Theirs is a music of epic grandeur and epic heartbreak that is so complete within itself that it is not of the tradition, it’s not just bluegrass or folk tinged transplanted balladry, it’s the living music of a colonised landscape. Grassoline are a band more than worthy of your attention whether on record or live.Americana-UK.com

Walton Hesse are no longer playing this gig. The good news is though The Fontana Instincts are instead. It's one week today! Full details at http://www.wagonwheelmedia.co.uk

***THE FONTANA INSTINCTS***

Image

The Fontana Instincts have spent the last two years playing all over England, taking audiences by surprise with their fresh take on Americana. A British Indie band maybe, but with American roots and West Coast influences close to heart. Unique and honest, the Fontana Instincts have an authentic sound and stage presence that’s hard to dismiss.

Once described as the ‘the love child of Waylon Jennings and Mariane Faithful, brought up on a diet of Grateful Dead and Noel Gallagher records’, the band has stamped their mark on the Midlands and garnered a reputation for being one of the best live bands in the area. Having spent 2011 and 2012 readying their debut album, Carousel, it is now finally available on CD and download.
