***CHRIS MURPHY & BOXER GENIUS***Chris Murphy & Boxer Genius are a folk, alt-rock band from Sheffield. Originally formed by Murphy in 2004 (and recording under the name The Greenlovers), the band have garnered a reputation for a powerful, epic, folk-rock sound, but yet have won plaudits from fans of a wide variety of musical genres.
Fantastic feedback has always followed the guys around and following in the wake of the single ‘Brighton’ released in February 2008, and the success of the album ‘Another Reunion’ from which it was taken, Exposed magazine described them as “ridiculously accomplished” while the Sheffield Star labelled Murphy “a maker of epic songs and muscular ballads”.
Recent years have seen line up changes and departures but the four piece are now back to a full complement and make a welcome return to the Sheffield live scene.

Not widely know outside of their hometown, the band have chosen a carefully crafted path, along the way picking up respect from their peers and a loyal following of fans.
The craftsmanship and quality of ‘Believe in Time’, their first release on the Modest Means Recordings label, recalls the brittle tones of R.E.M. and the sparse beauty of Great Lake Swimmers, but Sparkwood & 21 have produced an album that is uniquely their own.
From the lyrical immediacy of Another Year, through the autumnal tones of The Lake and the ghostly melody of Shadows, each song shimmers with elegiac beauty.
Clocking in at 30 minutes, the nine tracks that make up ‘Believe in Time’ are as fine a set of songs as you will hear all year and serve as a fine follow up to 2009′s debut release ‘By The Water’s Edge’.

Downbeat romantics, hopeless optimists, they wander forth glass in hand. The band have been likened in turns to Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Karl Wallinger, Jacques Brel and Warren Zevon.
In 2011 they released debut album ‘Souls’. It’s persistent themes are of helpless optimism and an endless pilgrimage in search of human contact.
“
Beautiful”
Martin Stephenson“
It’s music to make you feel better, hard to categorise, easy to enjoy and when the album closes with a quiet, intense waltz the repeat button is the first thing you reach for.”
