Post subject:  him her and me

Okay, I am obviously out of my depth when I come anywhere near the rockabilly bit but I thought I'd check you lot out on this. The whole 'Serious' bit had me acknowledging that I was falling for this whole rockabilly thing and so this weekend I dug out a CD an old school pal of mine gave me (a band she used to be in). We were at primary and secondary school together and met up a few years back, and (my old pal) Connie stayed true to her rockabilly roots and has been playing double bass for eons.

So I was listening to the CD she gave me - Rock therapy by Him Her and Me and wondered if any of you had heard it? Much as I love Connie, not sure of the vocals but I do think the double bass is rather fab. On the few occasions I've been back down in Portsmouth when she's been playing I've caught her gigs supporting anyone who gave her a call, usually in some wonderfully down-at-heel pub, and I am so in awe of the way she pounds (or is that slaps?) on that double bass. She's really modest, and says it's just muscle memory or some-such but I have genuinely been mesmerised by her playing!

No need to feel out of your depth! If somet' floats yer boat  you don't need to know everything about it to enjoy it.
I've been into Rockabilly since late 70's/early 80's when I shoulda been doing my homework and revision instead of trying to learn to play like Setzer, Scotty etc (still trying!).

Things is I've a pretty lame record/CD collection and feel a right ignoramus when people talk about acts that any self respecting Rockabilly fan should know!

Talking of "Serious"; what a corker!! I was on the way to band rehearsals when I first heard it and almost crashed the car in amazement. New Rockabilly being played on Radio 2 - and not even on the Mark Lamarr show. 8)

Oh yeah, can't beat a slapper for that authentic sound. :P

Rock Therapy is a great song! Covered many times over the years- there are quite a few versions on YouTube.
Don't see the Johnny Burnette one up there which would be one of the best

Here's Canada's Cousin Harley doing it

They titled their CD rock therapy but no cover version on it - says all their own stuff. They've disbanded now. I've got me a Johnny Burnette CD so shall have a look to see if have his version of rock therapy. What fun! :D
