Post subject:  Keb Darge and Cut Chemist

I've just bought the Keb Darge and Cut Chemist compilation, 'Lost and found: Rockabilly and jump blues', on the basis of a recommendation in another thread. It's incredible! I'm particularly fond of Johnny Clark and the Four Playboys 'Jungle stomp', Wayne Walker 'All I can do is cry' and the Planet Rockers 'Batteroo'. I think some of this is later rockabilly, it certainly sounds more bass-heavy than most of the Sun-era rockabilly i've heard. Can anyone recommend more of this kind of insane, almost surfy rockabilly?

That is a good point-how do you define it from rock n roll? is Mystery train a rockabilly record but "my baby left me"(same song really but we diff words) a rock and roll record because its beefed up more.

Good point hissyt, its like listening to Big Joe Turner's Honey Hush and Shake Rattle and Roll and although it's Swing/Jazz/Blues it's just as Rock 'n' Roll as when later bands did it.

Great links chaps,

I love all 'billy & Rock n Roll. Don't really care what banner its under if it's rockin. Having different instruments in the songs don't really change it for me, its all good stuff.

I had blazin words with our lad yesterday about cochran, he asked me to chose whether he was rockabilly or was he rock n roll....
my answer... he's fucking boss so nothing else matters

I thought I had better improve my music knowledge to have an idea about rockabilly. I found this 3 CD set in the Library and have been listening to it.

Thanks for that Emma, I will check them out later. I am supposed to be cooking dinner so we can get ready and go out tonight to see Kate Walsh.

You know I love a lot of what is called Rockabilly, but as I don't label music I didn't know it was Rockabilly. :D
