Am I hallucinating from decongestant capsules or have I never noticed this rather excellent thread before?

Bob Luman in the film 'Carnival Rock' featuring a very, very young James Burton (probably age 17) on guitar - before he joined Ricky Nelson. 8) 8) 8) 8)

I still reckon Dale Hawkins 'Susie Q' is one of the greatest Rockabilly records ever made - also featuring an even more youthful Mr Burton.

Oooo nice one ted!! very youthful james but my f**king god he can play even at that age!! Makes me want to get me tele out!!

I totally agree Susie Q was way ahead of it's time, for me it's as important track that helped define rockabilly and rock and roll just as much as Mystery train and that's alright mama.

Had loads of Cochran on yesterday, that solo in twenty flight rock is exceptional when you look at the back bones of it, he really was an exceptional picker, setzer owes him a debt!
I think the riff and solo to the song is very berry-like / Tbone walker, just amazing stuff when you sit down with you own guitar and think about constructing something like that. Genius. Anyway i ramble...

Have mega uploaded that Twitty track i was on about - Long black train
enjoy!

Nice one

Cochran was pardon the pun - something else.

My fave track is Skinny Jim. I feel drained after listening to that one

not sure if there has been mention of Grady Martin in this thread yet, but the 'Roughneck blues' compilation is worth checking out.

I've got it - he's finally getting the deserved respect + acknowledgement for those classic Johnny Burnette rock and roll trio songs like 'rock therapy' and 'train kept a rollin'

If you get any Burnette rockabilly comps - it becomes extremely clear which tracks Grady was on and which tracks Paul Burlison played on - Burlison pales completely against Grady. Not that it was a battle or anything, but it's annoying that Burlison openly took credit for the more accomplished guitar work.

Slap double bass always gets me. Far, far cooler than electric bass. He seems to be really good at it too.
