He is my favorite and my best. :-)

Incidentally, in my mind, there are comparisons and similarities to be made between RH and EC, much more so than RH and, say, Roy Orbison, for example. I've often thought how complementary much of their work is--certain styles, often their voices, etc. particularly with EC's later works. The North album definitely stands out as being in the same wheelhouse as Truelove's Gutter. It's so plain to me how like-minded their art and songwriting talents have often been, but I wonder why it's not obvious to more people. I can't be the only one who thinks this. And they share a love and deep respect for so many greats who have gone before. I think it would be quite something to see them work together at some point, no?

Anyway, here's a song that's never far from my heart. It's an absolute shit video, so I never watch it, only listen. I prefer this particular live version to the one on the album, actually. Little bit more grit, little bit more dirt. :-)

Just listening to some of his music today in anticipation of seeing he and the Imposters next week. This Saturday is my annibirthary, or birthdiversary, whichever. Got married six years ago on my 40th birthday, so this will be a little belated celebration. I've been so fortunate to see him with all of his bands, as well as solo, and one time just he and Steve Nieve, which ranks right up there with the best shows I've ever seen.

Weekend was jam-packed with birthday and anniversary festivities; it might be that a glass or two was lifted. Can neither confirm nor deny. So, being gentle with myself today. This morning I have been on a much more relaxing bender:

10 years ago today I attended the last gig this group did, I keep on wishing for new music from them as sometimes wishes come true.

I only saw them once, 15 (or 14?) years ago, and will never forget their fabulous gig. In a very small club, we were standing with open mouths, there was an air of elegance and superb musicianship rarely experienced (well, that's until Hawley got his act together, of course).
Wishing for a new Cousteau album - definitely count me in!

Gwenno - Y Dydd Olaf

(Enthuses me especially with its sound, a fine blend of Delia Derbyshire, Joe Meek's "I Hear A New World", early Kraftwerk, Neu!, and others. Great form, great content, too.)

Roadtripping westward. A trail of summer thunderstorms behind us and a cooler full of lemonade at our feet. Sparrows taking dust-baths on the side of the highway; could watch them for hours. We are in no hurry. We will get there when we get there. :)

Saw Field Report supporting Tweedy earlier in the year - me and Chris Porterfield have a mutual friend from Wisconsin.

Ha! I love it. He and I have a few mutual friends too, as it would happen. Yay, our tiny world. Who's your friend, Justin Vernon? :-)

It's been wonderfully surreal to watch all these guys grow up and blow up. They're in your local bands and those do well, then they do something else that reaches even more people, and it all builds up till one day suddenly, boom. And all these guys, Sean Carey, Jon Mueller, Justin, Chris, everybody, they are and were the salt of the earth. You can just bump into people at the corner tap and they're in there all chilling out like you are. Except they're in there plotting stuff like the Eaux Claires festival. :) Which husband and I scored a last-minute ticket to, and which was so good I'm not even prepared to write about it yet. I might still be having heatstroke from it though!

Tweedy! Caught that too. Pretty sweet. Are you enjoying the Wilco Star Wars fun as well?
