He is my favorite and my best.
Incidentally, in my mind, there are comparisons and similarities to be made between RH and EC, much more so than RH and, say, Roy Orbison, for example. I've often thought how complementary much of their work is--certain styles, often their voices, etc. particularly with EC's later works. The North album definitely stands out as being in the same wheelhouse as Truelove's Gutter. It's so plain to me how like-minded their art and songwriting talents have often been, but I wonder why it's not obvious to more people. I can't be the only one who thinks this. And they share a love and deep respect for so many greats who have gone before. I think it would be quite something to see them work together at some point, no?
Anyway, here's a song that's never far from my heart. It's an absolute shit video, so I never watch it, only listen. I prefer this particular live version to the one on the album, actually. Little bit more grit, little bit more dirt.
Just listening to some of his music today in anticipation of seeing he and the Imposters next week. This Saturday is my annibirthary, or birthdiversary, whichever. Got married six years ago on my 40th birthday, so this will be a little belated celebration. I've been so fortunate to see him with all of his bands, as well as solo, and one time just he and Steve Nieve, which ranks right up there with the best shows I've ever seen.
