it is and i'm sure richard would love it up there. it's only a small festival but has started selling out and is championed by radio 2 i think (janice long is a regular visitor). it's usually quite an eclectic line up. i'd love to see him headline.

i was, i should point out, referring to the wrestling :*:

seriously though you're right, these little festivals are often the musical equivalent of gold dust.

for kipping i'd stay at the ceilidh place. never stayed there meself but it's supposed to be the best place place in ullapool. the food, drink and especially the vibe of the place is second to none.
http://ceilidhplace.com/ceilidhplace/default.asp
the website is a load of wank but don't let that put you off. just email them. you could actually play there if you fancied it as they hold gigs in the clubhouse and in the bar. james hunter played a blinder in there a few years back. failing that, the arch inn, the caledonian, the royal or the ferryboat would be okay.
if it's self catering you want, you could do worse than carnfune or ben ghobhlach cottages. first sleeps 5, if it's just you and the missus, the second takes 4. open fires the lot. check mrs mckenzie out for info.
[email protected]
this is a good site for general info on the village.
http://www.ullapool.co.uk/Accommodation4.html
the best place to eat is the morefield motel. if you like fish, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven. also good are the ceilidh and the caledonian hotel. DON'T eat at the seaforth!
best boozer is the ferryboat inn on the seafront. amazing view, impromptu folk sessions on a thursday. the arch inn, if you like pool, (i do. lots), ceilidh place, most are okay though.
it's a fairly cosmopolitian place, lots of europeans, and it is definately NOT blackpool. it's a place for chilling, walking and revitalising your soul.
i don't claim to know you and what you like but from what i've picked up on the site (your ethos of living, love of whitby and cornwall, etc) i'm sure you would absolutely adore the place. i'll refund the price of the holiday if you don't!

Filey was my holiday destination every year and i mean every year as a kid (other than Salou 88!). So we got out to everywhere round there coastal and otherwise. Scarborough is usually destination of choice these days, although we are thinking of taking the nipper to Filey so we can carry on the tradition of Dad Vs Sons 100 yard dash on the beach, i reckon i have 4 more years of winning before i get beat. It took me til being 15 to beat my dad, not sure who'd win now like, he'd no doubt try to leg me over at the start!
