Well worth a visit, especially in gorgeous sunshine. I went last weekend and was persuaded by friend's kids to do the ice-age cave tour....tour guide 'now children, what animals do you think were here at Creswell Crags in the ice-age'. Little girl (with great excitement) 'PENGUINS!' :D

lovely place - been a few times when the kids were younger - people don't realise that it's there so it doesn't get swamped with people

I have not been here for a few years now. I used to go as part of an archaeological group back in the 80's and it was great as we used to get into parts of the caves that were not open to the public.

Do they still have the little museum at one end of the crags?

They have got a swanky new visitor/museum centre and nice cafe...and last weekend I finally clocked onto the fact that they have re-routed the road so that it no longer runs past one side of the water. Makes it all the more of a hidden gem.

As a fan of Jean M Auel's Earths Children books I just love the history of Creswell Crags. A few of us fans met up there last year and did the cave tours. The cave art we saw was interesting, not as fantastic as the cave art in France, but it is the oldest cave art in this country and I felt privileged to see it.

The walk around the valley is lovely, a very special place.

You should, it is not a very big area but it is lovely. I took these photos last year, one from each direction. You can only go in the caves on a guided tour, but they are very informative (unless you know a lot about the subject.)
