Post subject:  London, city centre

Me and the wife want to go to london for a weekend break in may, we dont really fancy staying in the city centre trying to park up and charges etc, can anyone recommend somewhere to stay outside the city centre where we can easily travel in by bus to see all the sights and attractions also to get back to from a night out in the city centre, thanks

I'm not sure what is classed as city centre or otherwise but when i've been with work I've always stayed in bloomsbury which is fine

I usually drive in and park at Euston station, which is (one street) outside the congestion charge zone - last weekend I stayed here - http://www.macdonaldhotel.com/

My mate, who's a theatre buff, stays there regularly. It's in King's Cross and is a clean, friendly and quite cheap B & B.

If you want to stay further out, then there are B & Bs in Brent Cross at the bottom of the M1 - I haven't stayed in any, but quite a few come up in a Google search.

I use www.tubehotels.com and www.booking.com - from which you get hotels right next to tube stations - and hotels at cheap[ish] prices...

The Travelodge across the road from Euston station was very clean & comfortable, when I went to the RAH gig the other year. :)

It's a hotel attached to a big pub in Snaresbrook, east London. It's about a minute's walk from Snaresbrook Tube, which is on the Central Line. You'll be at Oxford Circus in 20 minutes from there but it's one the edge of Epping Forest so you can take a nice walk before you head into town. Also, Wanstead, which is the area it's in, has lots of nice restaurants and funny little shops to poke around in.

Alternatively, there are lots of hotels in Docklands which do good deals at weekends. Some of them overlook the river – The Tower Thistle hotel in Wapping overlooks Tower Bridge and sometimes does good deals. You can walk along the river into town from there and it's beautiful at night.

Good luck, hope you have a great time. x

Before booking anywhere relying on the tube to get you about, check the London Transport web site for weekend working for the weekend you are visiting. The DLR, Central, Jubilee, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines are often closed or limited at weekends at the moment so if you are intending to visit mainly central London sites, get a hotel near the centre to avoid transport problems, otherwise you'll be wasting a lot of your time standing in bus queues or sitting in traffic.

Post subject:  Hotels with parking

Stevo, not sure if this is useful to you - it describes hotels with parking in central, north, south London, etc
