So, I've had the mugshots done, filled in the form & turned up on time for the interview, now hopefully a shiny new passport should follow. So, should I venture forth to see my first overseas Hawley gig, what are the important things I need to do when travelling beyond the Isle of Wight? (Actually I've never even been there ) After I've packed the sandwiches & Thermos & turned off the gas. I've nothing planned yet, but I could end up somewhere or other, on the bike or via a flying machine.

I won't be doing holidays, just short trips for gigs. So any advice would be most helpful ..>

That's just brilliant! You're going to have so much fun. I went to see Elbow in Berlin last year and it was a real blast. My advice is - don't be shy and talk to lots of people. I always prefer to travel alone, so it's much more fun if you're not a wallflower. Have a wonderful time! :D

anywhere your going book well in advance for hotels, hostels etc there are some very cheap places to stay or you could camp in the warmer weather but always stay on a proper site, remember to keep your passport on you at all times in a safe zippable pocket,if your travelling alone DON'T flash a wad of money, take out what you think you will need for the day and put that in your trouser pocket and put the rest with your passport........tourist information centre's are ace nowadays,me and jarvis drove the whole length of Sweden once and used them every night to find amazing chalets next to lakes every night it was fuckin rare good, actually that would be a top trip on a bike........mainly just enjoy it pal, watch it gettin pissed though i have had a few lucky escapes over the years..........and i am not filling in any more detail than that enjoy

Go on holidays!

If you can't embrace the big wide world at every chance then you're living hand to mouth. You only get one life.

Bang on the stage door at about 4 or 5 and say "I'm Lofty from Rolling Stone and Richard said it would be OK to sit through the sound check and have a couple of beers from his rider"...

I was going to say look out for the pot holes the further East you go - but the UK pot hole situation is dire - so your well aware of that - in Eire some pot holes would take a RE350 in one go!

Thanks folks  Think I'll be like a rabbit caught in the headlights for a start, but I'll give it a shot. Now, what's the French for 'Egg & chips please'..... 8)

Watch out for the meat over there - they don't do "well-done" (In France that means it's probably been wafted in front of a hair-dryer for 30 seconds) They do great cakes though.

In some countries it's a requirement that you carry your passport with you, so it's useful to keep a copy at your hotel/hostel. (Some hotels will hold your passport for the first night of your stay and allow you to collect it next morning). You should also get one of these

http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcare ... ction.aspx

It's a NHS card that will allow you free medical treatment in Europe

You'll need a green card from your insurance company if you go on the bike and will probably need travel insurance too - cheapest we've ever found is an annual multi trip policy from Direct Insurance in Worthing but you can get single trip cover too. Don't buy it from a travel agent as they just rip you off.

That's my advice then ... oh, yes, don't forget your knotted hankie in case it's sunny! Enjoy yourself! :D

PS ... they drive on the wrong side of the road over there too ;o)

Most important advice if you're driving yourself - keep right!

When I searched for Berlin, this was the only post that came up, so sorry if I'm off topic - I've just been and have fallen in love with the place once again, sadly just for work.. when I get the time, I'll visit again and take some more photos for myself. That's all. Auf wiedersehn.

go to scandinavia, Lofty.
beer is a bit dear but ladies are mostly civilised and pretty, and it's beautiful (although you may find they don t have the same definition of "lofty" as you  , which is good, they are always attracted to what s different)
