We had a fabulous time. I had planned a loose itinerary, as I didn't want it to be too regimented, and we veered off track when and where we fancied.
To start with we booked the 2 day 'all loop tour' and each time took the full loop first and then went round again and hopped on and off where we chose. We also bought Metro tickets and used the public buses and subway. Must admit the subway system at Times Square was a bit intimidating to start with, but we got the hang of it pretty soon.
We did do the usual touristy things: Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn, Museum of Modern Art, a wonderful 'Bodies' exhibition .... too much to mention. The Cathedrals were wonderful, the food was wonderful - even a skyscraper of a pastrami sandwich tat we had ... enough meat to feed a family of four for a week with two token triangles of caraway bread.
The tennis at the US Open at Flushing Meadows was an experience in itself. (Only 20 minutes by subway from Times Square) I've been to Wimbledon many times, but this was like a Circus by comparison! Wouldn't have missed it for the world though, a balmy evening with top class tennis.
I thought you might like the photo of this woman in Times Square .... that's my retirement plans sewn up. Not sure if it will be as comfortable in Princes Street in December!
