... and I'm off there too a week on Sunday.

Not the best time of year to be going but can't wait - I soooo need a break.

I think getting past your 30s  calls for some kind of celebration.

Have a fantastic time Noblebones - we want to see photos when you get back. See you at Buxton?

Some great photos there efsb and some very familiar sites - particularly of the UWS where we were staying.

We took loads of photos, but thought this one might be of interest:

Went to New York in December 2007. We went a couple of weekends
before Christmas and did all the usual sites, Empire State, Statue,
Central Park, Big Chritmas Tree, Macy's Christmas Windows etc. etc.

We were going to do a show on the Saturday night but I thought I'd
have a look to see what gigs were on if any.

We finally decided and got tickets for Ronnie Spector's annual
Christmas bash at B B Kings Blues Club, just off Broadway.

What a night!! Just as good and as much fun as watching Ronnie, was
watching the New Yorker's!! Talk about over the top, what a laugh.

If you're in New York just before Christmas, check it out. You have a
meal before the "show" starts and it's just a fantastic way to kickstart
Christmas..."Rocking around the Christams Tree...da de de de de de"

So Sean and I are to New York tomorrow. It seems aeons ago that we booked it, so he's having to pinch himself that it's really here. Our trip was paid for with some money that was left to Sean's late mum by her cousin. As his mum had already passed away, the money came to Sean and his brother.

So we shall be toasting them both at some point in the trip - Sean has always wanted to go to NY so it seemed fitting to use the money this way.

Don't think our snaps will be anywhere as good as efsb's! We have tickets for an evening session of tennis at the US Open in Flushing Meadows too - fab!

Ooohhh, you lucky thing! We went in March - funny really cos I had never been that fussed about going, as thought it would be too busy and do my head in, but have to say I loved the place. I have posted on here previously re this, but if you can a) stomach it and b) stretch to it, I would so recommend the helicopter flight - just a fantastic experience.
Have a great time!

Prudence, I haven't been here in ages, but I'm hoping you're having a fantastic time in the city! We've certainly given you the full weather range (99 degrees in the shade, hurricane, and now it's kinda chilly).

I'm miles away without plans to be in town, but am waving to the south.

We had a fabulous time. I had planned a loose itinerary, as I didn't want it to be too regimented, and we veered off track when and where we fancied.

To start with we booked the 2 day 'all loop tour' and each time took the full loop first and then went round again and hopped on and off where we chose. We also bought Metro tickets and used the public buses and subway. Must admit the subway system at Times Square was a bit intimidating to start with, but we got the hang of it pretty soon.

We did do the usual touristy things: Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn, Museum of Modern Art, a wonderful 'Bodies' exhibition .... too much to mention. The Cathedrals were wonderful, the food was wonderful - even a skyscraper of a pastrami sandwich tat we had ... enough meat to feed a family of four for a week with two token triangles of caraway bread.

The tennis at the US Open at Flushing Meadows was an experience in itself. (Only 20 minutes by subway from Times Square) I've been to Wimbledon many times, but this was like a Circus by comparison! Wouldn't have missed it for the world though, a balmy evening with top class tennis.

I thought you might like the photo of this woman in Times Square .... that's my retirement plans sewn up. Not sure if it will be as comfortable in Princes Street in December!

I saw an elsebound train, on the overpass
In the driving rain, every ticket costs the same
For where you can't go
Mustang horses, champagne glasses
Anything frail anything wild
It's the price of living motion, what's beautiful is broken
And grace is just the measure of a fall.

Fab Eoin! Makes me wonder at the weird standards in the US though: they let this woman loose in the street with no problem, but throw an absolute wobbler when Janet Jackson has a 'wardrobe malfunction' and shows one breast.
