Everyone has a favourite ( well everyone who likes curry) mine is Kashmir in Bradford downstairs in the cafe, never seen anyone in the restaurant upstairs, cutlery something of a luxury, decor could be better but food is quality and service quick and prices cheap.
Also any of the cafe's in Manchester Northern quarter Thomas street area, who's speciality is 3 curries and rice, what they make depends on the day of week.
Admittedly not the sort of places for that special occasion, but for quality freshly cooked authentic food, they cant be beaten or can they

sounds like the Mangla on spital hill in Sheffield very basic vibe but the food is legendary, way better than the majority of expensive posh places

We have a great place in Chelmsford called The Sitar - the decor is awful (think the 70's flock wallpaper vibe) and the place is painted pink outside (!) but the food is out of this world! :D

The Mangla is absolutely fantastic.

Also a huge fan of the new Rajput restaurant opposite the Springvale pub (RIP) on Commonside. The takeaway has been the best in Sheffield for many years, and the restaurant, which opened next door about a year ago, is right up there with the best.

Sheffield is great for curries. :D

"Rabid" Abid's Tandoori in Matlock was my favorite, but they closed down a year or two ago. Another has sprang up in it's place, but I haven't tried it yet.

Cheers, Steve.

Plenty of restaurants around good bad and average, but for the more authentic food experience you cant beat the cafe's, plenty of restaurantsaround but bugger all in Hudds on the cafe front despite a large asian population.
Years back there was a ledgendary one called Chiefies infamous for its fiery curries but itsadly burned down one nightnever to be replaced, I like to think it spontaniously combusted thus saving future Huddersfield residents the dreaded morning after ring of fire

 Small world!!

Why on earth would anybody want to leave Yorkshire for Chelmsford though?

I only live a few minutes walk from there - give us a bell next time and I'll put the kettle on! :*: (joking, don't worry!)

Any good curry recommendations for Newcastle? I'll be up there soon and a nice curry seems like the ideal start (or finish) to a Saturday night on the toon. :D

Can't really help you there arne, i don't usually drink in the town, the only ones i know are the Rupali in the Bigg Market http://www.curryhell.com/ and i think theres a curry place in Jesmond which is a converted train carriage or station????

Maggie might know better than me.

One for you London Curry lovers is Ragam in Cleveland Street London. It's near Goodge street. But be warned the restaurant is tiny. Had many a good evening in there, seems like this bloke liked it too..

We used to go there when we worked on Clipstone Street. Haven't found anywhere as good in the Victoria area.
