Yeah, I love old pubs like you describe 'The White Hart'. With loads of small individual rooms.

Saloon Bar, Public Bar, Public Lounge, Lounge Bar, Tap Room, Vaults, Smoke Room, Snug Room, Bar Parlour....any pub which is only one room is weird!!!
The reason why they knocked the walls through was through the class and social changes of the 60s and 70s, in old days different rooms of pubs were for the working class (ie tap rooms/public bars), some were for couples and social drinkers (saloon and lounge), some were men only (smoke room, games room, club room) etc etc.

Where I live they used to say we had 52 houses & 26 pubs. We actually had two pubs next door to each other! Loads have either been knocked down, or closed down. The most popular one left is an awful 'big screen TV & music so loud you have to shout' establishment. The best is the Three Horse Shoes, known locally as Polly's. Two rather small rooms, never modernised, no till, just a wooden drawer. No carpet. Very friendly.

I haven't been to England in nine years and I'm very sad about that. Everywhere I went for a pint was special to me; unfortunately I didn't take down the names of any of them.

This was my favourite local to me now, but the old landlord has gone and they've "done it up inside" so it's lost its ambience or should I say its basic qualities

Lots of Newcastle pubs I love for all sorts of different reasons, some I haven't been in in ages so might have changed - probably have. Crown posada doesn't change like
Image always had a fondness for the Duke of Wellington

London is full of great wee pubs all over the place, places you stumble on in the middle of the day when you're not really paying too much attention.

Could post hundreds of pictures here..

When I was growing up the pubs in our village were rubbish we had to drive out - this was our favourite back in the day, in Hickling. Decent beer, food didn't stretch further than a chip butty and it had a pool table that you needed a short cue to play any shot from one whole side (a pub pool table isn't worth anything if you can play with a full size cue all the way round it).

There were several very cosy pubs buried in the south notts/north leicestershire countryside

Dunno what it's like now mind. Probably done out.

Samll world, I shall be at the Plough at Hickling on Saturday 6 June for a family do. It's under new ownership and we're told it's all rather good.

I used to frequent the Griffin at Keyworth, the Plough at Normanton on the Wolds, Flying Horse, Fountain, Royal Children and Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem when in Nottingham itself, Flying Horse is gone (it's a shopping arcade).

We had dinner at the Kinloch Hotel on Isle of Mull when we were there last year and the year before.

The view from the hotel is lovely.

This is the view from the back window.
