on my travels yesterday drove through Leek(A53) to Buxton onto Ashford in the Water and then Chesterfield.
The A53 in all the lovely weather was fantastic.Think we will have to have a couple of nights up there in the better weather.
Any ideas for nice overnight stops?

Leek has loads of antique shops and excellent pubs - there are plenty of B & B farmhouses in the Staffordshire Moorlands/Peak District, too, so basing yourself somewhere in that area would be a good base for further exploring.

As you passed through Ashford in the Water, you may want to check out Monsal Head. It is a lovely area for walking, with some superb views of the dale and old railway viaduct, and has a hotel (Monsal Head Hotel) that does B&B. It is just a 10 minute drive to Bakewell from here, which is a pretty nice town.

Cheers, Steve.

You'll have passed The Roaches on the A53. They're far more impressive going the other way (Buxton to Leek).

The first time I approached them it was a bit foggy, and I thought I was driving into an alien landscape!

Dunno what happened to my previous post, but it seems to have taken my website out :?
All back up now - weird gremlin stuff going on!!
Sorry if you were referring to my previous pic Baroness - that had nothing to do with the Roches - it was a picture taken last spring, of the hill opposite where I live. My website went really whacky for a little while! Thanks for your kind comments.
Cheers, Steve.
