I've stayed at a youth hotel along that front - I'd been across to the outer hebrides on the motorbike and got the ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool. There's a great chippy just up the hill.

Were there any Seals in the harbour? I went for a walk to where all the fishing boats moor up and there was a small crowd watching a couple of seals swimming around literally 5 feet away in the water - they kept coming up and staring at us all. They were massive too - I didn't realize how big they could get. I'm thinking of going again before Christmas.

get yourself off. now! yes, there were seals in the harbour and a couple of herons fishing on the shore line. i watched them for two hours as the sun went down. bliss.

the youth hostel is closed now until april if you were thinking of staying there. it would have to be b and b or a hotel. how about pitching a tent at the campsite? you might need a hot water bottle though.

that's where the bands play at the festival. richard. hint, hint.

I think i'll have to get me arse up there next year, travelled all over Scotland due to work years ago but never got that far up. If Mr. H was to be up there doing a gig also it would be a bit special. (does that sound a bit gay?) :?

not at all. i've got the bit between my teeth on this but i don't want to go on and on and on and bore him to death even though i probably am. i just feel he'd love it up there. i mean, playing a gig right next to the sea, how cool is that? we could all dress as pirates! the locals wouldn't know what had hit them. last three pics to tempt him.

What sort of music festival is it? Folk, rock, jazz or scandanavian death metal or a bit of everything? As boring as i am, i probably would dress up as a pirate or a native indian or an alien or a cowboy.... but i would draw the line at a 70's disco dancer, NO!!

:? I'm not dressing up as a bleedin' pirate for anyone ... they had manky teeth, lice, scurvy, questionable morals and unpleasant body odour :shaking: ... I'm not in to romanticising the past, it was a rough unpleasant life ... interesting though.

The prospect of Hawley playing at Ullapool would be fantastic though :D ... the light is really incredible that far north. 8) Those photos are just stunning, mph ... irresistible location ... but perhaps a little stealth ... get the Devil's Arse out the way before round 2 of pestering starts

aye, maybe you're right cats. these are some of the bands who've played there over the last three years. franz ferdinand, the view, the stranglers, saw doctors, hayseed dixie, undertones, levellers, alabama 3, echo and the bunneymen, the bees, tiny dancers, king creosote, red hot chilli pipers. there's only 2,500 tickets as it's not a massive festival. it usually sells out well in advance.

not a tribute band. they play bagpipe versions of classic songs! quite a laugh when you've had a few bevvies.
