A few years back I could have recommended loads of places, but it's changed so much since I moved to London. If no-one else gets back to you I'll mail my sister and get some info for you.

I stayed in Nottingham for several weeks exactly ten years ago this autumn and grew fond of the place.

The Waltons hotel was my home-from-home. Quirky place, great food and a nice bar.

Plenty of good curry houses in the city centre (Maid Marian Way?) and some decent pubs but I cannot remember a single name except the last place I went in on a stag night some years later, Jumpin Jack's, which ironically was forgettable. Useless Johnny!!

City centre is crazy after dark...and a bit scary in parts. Take care.

Make sure you visit the Trip to Jerusalem - oldest pub in the country, built into the rock underneath the castle. Good live venues include the Rescue Rooms and the Maze - the latter, especially has some great roots and Americana acts on, on a fairly regular basis. The Music Room have a shop just down the road from the Maze, should you want to pick up some good quality folk instruments..! :o

If you want a good real ale pub out of the centre, I can recommend the Lion in Basford - it also has live music.
