... is a stones throw from my house and is nearly 100 years old having opened in 1910. I will be there again this weekend to see the Batman film, can't wait, what a great building

How lovely! :D

We had a beautiful art deco cinema in Maldon, Essex but they knocked it down in the 80's and it has now been replaced by an old people's complex...........

All the lovely old cinemas here in Chelmsford are now eithe rnightclubs or bingo halls - all the original features gone - such a shame!

I hate those big multiplex places ... ...though they're a good place to take dogsandnintendo on a hot day if only for the air conditioning ... anyhow, very fortunate to have this glorious old cinema in town

... and even luckier to live in a town that's got a weird set up whereby there's a heritage foundation that owns a lot of the land and ploughs a lot back into charitable stuff ... including the refurbishment and subsidy of the cinema for quite a few years until it broke even.

Think tours are going to be available weekend of 12-13 September .. when it's "open buildings" weekend. Shall try to get a peep at some of the old art deco behind the scenes stuff.

slap bang in the middle of Brum, a true gem!! well worth the train fare, if only for the cuppa and cake whilst watching the film, with real CLEAN carpet under your feet. Good sound quality as well, not blaring, just right... you can also take a beer to your seat, and pay extra to lounge on the leather sofas. Personally, we found the cheap seats comfy enough!

I don't think we'll go to another cinema again, even with the train fare and cinema tickets it works out cheaper than our local multiplex. Hopefully going there this weekend, well worth the 60mile round trip (no we don't live in Oz or US! :*:).

I think these days its cheaper to buy the DVD! Its not what it used to be - no atmosphere, cold air conditioning, people talking........... totally flat!

I've got one of the Shire books on old cinemas and it just makes me hanker after a traditional cinema experience, I don't like the modern "boxes" of today.............. :?
