A friend of mine bought me the album "I am a bird now" a while ago and I just can't get into it at all, despite repeated listens. I have read many good reviews and I am wondering if any of you have heard the album yourselves and what you thought of it?

I just don't get it.

I have it and like it, but only in small doses, one track at a time and no more or the voice starts to get on my nerves a bit.

i've heard various things by antony and the johnsons - i must say that when it comes to the overly emotional torch song stuff i prefer to hear KD Lang doing it.

One of my friends has it, so I've heard a few tracks... I don't really like what I've heard of it, the voice just gets to me.

the voice gets to you...but not in a good way

i know what you mean, to me it just sounds "too" emotional. But, some people really dig it.

I like the album, particularly the duet with Boy George

If you like his voice and classic dance music then check out Hercules And Love Affair, he sings on several tracks and co-wrote them

Yeah, definitely in a bad way. I think my problem with it (apart from the whole tone of voice just being irritating) is that the emotion sounds really fake.

I agree with Aurora, in my humble opinion it sounds forced - kind of like all those "gangster" rappers talking about life in the slums while they are driving along in expensive cars and blinged to the max.

I can't relate to it.

& definitely, it's all a bit fake. But I haven't heard the whole album so I might give it a go... Though I expect I won't bother, given the glowing reviews it's receiving on here.
