Fast (bit too fast?) out of traps with their 'Best of '08' album list, US music mag Paste has just ranked the M. Ward/Zooey Deschanel project She & Him Vol. 1 their album of the year (Bon Iver, Okervil R. also in their top 10 - see it here) - and it won't be far away from the top of my mine, either. A proper little life-enhancer and just the latest example of Ward's magic touch.

Scandalously allowed just the one song when making his only appearance to date on Later with Jools H. a couple of years back, his glowing perf of Fuel for fire has at least been preserved on YouTube:

And there's zillions to choose from but maybe my fave Ward song is Beautiful car which dates right back to his 1999 debut - there's a tantalising excerpt here

That's an interesting list, I've only got 4 of those albums so gives me something to check out. Bon Iver was the album of the year for me, I was listening to it again last night after a month or so break and it's not just album of the year, I think it's going to be one of my all time most loved.
She & Him is a fine record though, I much preferred it to his last solo album.

There was I thinking Paste was a bit hasty with their list when the new Mojo drops on the mat (2.30pm mail is now the norm round here - fings ain't wot, etc etc) and they've got their top 50 albums in too! Won't spoil it for other subscribers but Pete Molinari makes the top 20, She & Him nowhere!
