Just wondering whether anyone's got any thoughts on 'acid test songs'- those classic songs that, when covered, show whether a singer/band has 'got it' or not. 'Hallelujah' has already been mentioned. Your thoughts on the best and worst versions of this wd be appreciated...as would suggestions for other acid test songs (& other defining/deeply awful versions of them).

Song to the Siren - Buckley, Czars, This Mortal Coil, all great versions.

Blue Melody - Cousteau covering Tim Buckley - one of Liam's best vocals (it's on his My Space page at the moment if you've not heard it).

aaaaah Song to the Siren. I love TMC's version (more than Buckley's actually) although I haven't hear the Czars one or the Cousteau/Blue Melody. Will check them out. You're a star! 8)

Link to Liam's site in my signature. I'm sure I've got more recommendations so will be back later.
