Can't remember how many times I saw Martin solo or with The Daintees when I grew up in Newcastle. It was often impossible to move at the Jumpin' and Hot Club in the Bridge Hotel basement if he was rumoured to be turning up. We even went on a sixth form trip to Paris and put up Kitchenware, "Bored hitless with scrap records? Try this - Boat to Bolivia by Martin Stephenson and The Daintees", flyers all over.

There's now a Christmas Daintees get together every year, well recently anyway and this year's booked already, at The Cluny. I've never made it back before, but with this years date confirmed already I'll have to go along. I've only heard good things about it.

Saw The Daintees at the Jazz Cafe last year playing all of Boat to Bolivia and some of the other early stuff like Louie's. Still as brilliant as ever and MS still fits in more conversation in between the lyrics of songs than most folk speak in a week

Martin Stephenson

Wed 17th Sept 8pm £9 (£7.50 concs) seated

Martin is a supremely gifted songwriter and musician, who lives and plays from the heart. His rootsy adventures off the beaten track reveal his love for the blues of Doc Watson, the empathy of Woody Guthrie and the magic of a great melody. Martin dipped his toes in the water of fame in the 80’s with The Daintees, before escaping the machinations of the mainstream music industry by sheltering in the Highlands of Scotland, and rediscovering his genius.

Why…? It is a genuine pleasure to partake of an evening with Martin, he is warmly welcoming, genuinely humble, and very entertaining.

A date for your diaries, if you live this way of the world?

I thought you might be interested in this email from Candlelit records who are doing the Martin Stephenson Tribute album. They seem to have some great artists, the gigs a bit far from Reading for me though, shame!

Hello Helen and thank you for the message.
The Martin Stephenson tribute CD will be available soon.
We are presenting the CD to Martin at a gig at The Debees Music Bar in Winsford, Cheshire on 30th July - the CD will be released shortly afterwards.
If you send me an email address, I will keep you informed.
Regarding other artists - again if you send me details via email of those you are interested in, I will pass on the relevant details.
We are currently working on a compilation CD - featuring artists who have appeared at Candlelit gigs.
Have you visited:-

Also a DVD of some great Candlelit moments featuring selected artists.

Many thanks again for your enquiry Helen.
Take care
Love and light

Winsford is not far from me, I might see if I can get there. :)
