I heard the first song on the radio and thought it interesting.I really wanted to like them tonight , I really did , but I found it all style and no substance - all padding. Take away the timpani and strings and there's not a lot left , especially the lyrics .It kept reminding me of the far grander 'We came through' by Scott Walker .

Anyone see Jools Holland last night?

Toumani Diabate was amazing. Got really into him last year after I was given savane by ali farka toure.

The last shadow puppets were alright.

devotchka and portishead were good too.

It was one of those rare programmes where every act was listenable - can't wait for Friday's extended edition.

Yes he was very hynotic and the music was almost jazz-like - a good 'plucker' ! Portishead was a big let down and it seems have not moved on at all from there last foray- they have just repeated themselves again .I've really went off them and Beth Gibbons' moany face .

"machine gun" is much more industrial and stripped down from the earlier stuff. I don't think it is just a repeat of what they've done before at all.

oh, and beth gibbons is the sexiest woman who ever walked God's green earth. 8)

Oops, missed Jools... I'll watch it on iPlayer. Though technically I'm not allowed.

I think if they really wanted to keep me out they'd make it a bit more complicated than ticking the box that says 'Yes I am over 16'
