One of my favorites. I love Buster Keaton pictures, and that's probably the best of them.

Someone's already mentioned it, but I've got to say that "The Lady Vanishes" is just such a joy, really incredibly funny. Probably Hitch's funniest movie until "North by Northwest"...which also has a train scene come to think of it.

There's a superb Czech film called Closely Observed Trains. It's lovely.

They gave that away with The Guardian or Observer a while back and I watched it when I was ill one day. Lovely film, evocative and of course rather sad

Taking of Pelham 123 and North By North West immediately come to mind, as does Ken Loach's The Navigators, which was filmed in Sheffield.

Does Kes count? There's plenty of t'rain in that.

The first and the best! Buster actually destroyed a bridge with a real locomotive on it. These were the days before special effects, natch.

I remember years ago seeing an old film called The Ghost Train. It was black and white but can't remember much about it

I wanted to show my appreciation, as it seems to have gone unnoticed.....

Don't you hate it when people bump up a thread from the back end of nowhere just because the topic interests them...?

Murder She Said (1961), based on Agatha Christie's 4.50 from Paddington, featuring Marge Rutherford and ironically Joan Hickson (later TV's Miss Marple) as her sidekick. One for a wet Saturday afternoon.

Ron Goodwin's familiar 'oom-pah-pah' theme music was bizarrely covered by the Fun Boy Three as the opening track for their 1983 album Waiting. Why? Probably the same reason frontman Terry 'King of Dead Pan' Hall covered George Gershwin's Summertime (1982) and Dana's All Kinds of Everything with Sinead O'Connor (2005). Not the foggiest. But, it's fun.

You'll recognise Goodwin's catchy tune and be humming it if you wake up tomorrow. You will, you will, you will. Take a look...

Not a film but a TV show - on Sundays at about 2.00 pm on the Travel Satellite Channel or some such stuff - its all about the Swiss Railway Network.

Great travelog type programme - especially if your three quater cut from the Pub and want a nice sit down with yet another beer - prior to the calling for consumption of the three week old cheese in the fridge and those nice Jacobs crackers from the back of the cupboard...

I suddenly remember the 70s TV show Supertrain

http://nbc_supertrain.tripod.com/index.html

Not so much for the show itself, but the way my neighbor, 9 or so year old boy, was so excited about it coming on TV, he could barely breath at the bus stop.
