Starts tonight on BBC2 and they are using Brownsea Island for their base.

My company lease the castle on the island as one of our holiday places with the National Trust running the rest of the island. It's an amazing place to go for a break, a good place to go to relax.

Brownsea Island. Isn't that where Baden Powell started the Boy Scouts movement? And isn't it the last bastion of the red squirrel in England? (We still have a few of them left here in Scotland I think)

I think there's still red squirrels on the Isle of Wight and round Formby in East Lancs ... and further north in Cumbria and Northumberland

I've only ever seen one and that was in Scotland where the largest numbers still are.

Brownsea is one of only two sites in southern England with thriving red squirrels, the other being the Isle of Wight.

And they have seahorses - hope they show lots of those.

The Sika deer are beautiful, often sneaked out in late evening on to the National Trust part to see those.

Did everyone remember to feed the birds over the weekend - it was National Bird Feeding Day, or something like that.

The can nest quite low down but in shrubs/trees - and they will attack you if you go near their nest, gutsy little buggers.

Weird thing is, up here in the Midwest in the US of A, the problem is the opposite... it's being reported that the European Red Squirrel (introduced from the UK) is outcompeting the native Grey.

I don't quite get that....

Isn't Brownsea Island the one in Enid Blyton's Famous Five books? I would love to visit the island. We have family living about an hour away from Poole I will try to plan a visit next year.

The squirrels at Formby Point (National Trust) are so friendly you can hand feed them if you are lucky. They are so cute.

Are they returning to Martin Mere in West Lancs? The show was based there last autumn.

Twitchers tell me a bittern was spotted there the other day.

I think it is just Brownsea Island this time. We visited Martin Mere last year and saw Bill and Kate being filmed in the reserve. The Sky+ failed to record last nights programme. It keeps saying there is a power cut when we are watching the other channel without any problems.
