Read something interesting in the Guardian today...

"Despite Cameron's 2009 pledge to stick females in a third of government posts, we are 53rd in the world for female representation, behind Iraq and, weirdly, Afghanistan."

The article is here if you're interested: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/oct/12/tories-cant-win-without-women

Lovely day for a march yesterday. 130,000 in London alone, very refreshing to see so many plebs on the streets – my children thought it very exciting. x

We live in strange times, where the presenter of For the Love of Dogs talks more sense than the leader of the Labour Party.

Great interview, sounds like a great bloke. x

"That is why no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party .................. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin. They condemned millions of first-class people to semi-starvation. Now the Tories are pouring out money in propaganda of all sorts and are hoping by this organised sustained mass suggestion to eradicate from our minds all memory of what we went through. But, I warn you young men and women, do not listen to what they are saying now. Do not listen to the seductions of Lord Woolton [Cameron]. He is a very good salesman. If you are selling shoddy stuff you have to be a good salesman. But I warn you they have not changed, or if they have they are slightly worse than they were."
Friend pointed this out to me, Aneurin Bevan in 1948. Great quote, not a lot has changed. x

One of my favourite books is the first volume of Michael Foot's biography of Aneurin Bevan (the second volume's canny too) beg, steal -well steal nicely obviously, or borrow it (through a library by preference - should test the limits of most public libraries now sadly) if you can.

And he likes dogs...

"While looters got 18-month sentences for "nicking something", he says, bankers "who brought this country to a standstill" go unpunished." - and he's a poet.
