Depends which service industry you're on about.If it's the food & drink industry then a lot of the blame has to be the dreaded "optional"service charge.Staff know that 99% of people will pay it without question,no matter what the service has been like,so why bother smiling and being helpful when you're going to get tipped anyway.Get it taken off the bill and leave a cash tip if you think it's been earned.
As for other industries..........blame the parents of surly rude people.....bastards!! :P
