All the shite that the licence fee money is wasted on and then something of genuine quality is pulled. It's ok though, we'll just get more bargain hunting masterchef 'celebrities' strictly dancing off to find cash in the attic.

Well it is a neat idea so ITV / Sky etc will pick up on it - however any gig broadcast will be interupted every three minutes with a moblie phone ad...

Jeff Smith, head of music at Radio 2, said the the station would "replicate the spirit of Electric Proms within the live music schedule".

and just what is the BBC's 'live music schedule' I wonder? Other than 'later with Jools Holland' what is there?

music is so poorly represented on TV which i find very maddening music is one of Britain's greatest exports and assets it is criminal

He was talking about Radio 2 & 6 Music.

I don't see it as any great loss *if* it means more coverage of 'regular' gigs.

Hopefully mismatched bills on ridiculous 'showcases', that most of the people who actually like somebody who's playing can't get tickets for don't serve much purpose as i can see. Exactly the type of gig where is people here had got in to see somebody like H they'd only be complaining that most of the crowd were talking/seen to be seen/corporate knobs.

With what they pay somebody like Elton John (who obviously needs the coverage...) they could probably knock out a whole series covering more up and coming stuff and start trying to lead the charts again rather than blindly following them and the almighty pound signs.
