True, we have the right to voice our opinions. Whether any body listens to them is another matter! :?

Looks like Sheffield has shown Clegg the door :)
He'd aged about 20 years when i saw him on the news just before.

I'm just watching Paul Scriven (ex leader Sheff City council) on the news trying to squirm his way out of such a savage loss - I always thought Nick Clegg was a ******* . I wonder what will happen to AV now?

They've been hammered. Serves them right for abandoning any "principle" they said they had to get in bed with the devil.

Media saying the Libs will give him the push but I read a funny thing about leader in waiting Chris Huhne.

haven't been on here for a while & this made for a fascinating read, so thanks to all who contributed. Probably more lucidity & accuracy than in either of the No/Yes campaigns

- No to AV Wins.
- Tories gain councils and seats.
- SNP smashed Labour.
- Labour making nowhere near the gains it should and could have.
- Even with a strong Labour win the Tories are now 2nd in Wales.

Can imagine places like Sheffield will be chuffed to have Labour councils again, but for me the story of the results is that the left in this country spent so much time attacking the LibDems they have let the Tories get their own way on AV, actually increase their power base locally and has played a part in Labour losing their biggest Wesminster stronghold - Scotland, with that traditionally left wing LibDem Scottish vote went almost entirely to the SNP.

Labour has won the North and Wales, which it dominated until fairly recently but by and large everywhere else is pretty weak. After the last year, that is a bitter result.

The Tories are celebrating tonight, this has to change. We should have used our energies on them instead, we can't make such a mistake again.

... and we've ended up with a majority government in the Scottish parliament, under a system designed to keep out majority governments. Doh. The election map is ridiculously yellow... I voted Labour, and I'm in one of the few constituencies that still has a Labour MSP, but to be honest I completely expected this, considering how betrayed the whole country feels by Clegg's 'it's what the nation wanted'. If he'd looked a little closer he would have noticed the Tories only had one sodding Scottish seat and now the whole bleeding country hates him  Grumble...

Oh well. I did expect this from the AV referendum, but it was a nice idea.

Bit of a shame that in the end the AV thing seemed to come down to personality politics. I reckon a lot of people voted no because they hate Nick Clegg. Perhaps it would have been better if our leading politicians had stayed out of it.

Don't like the look of this at all. The tories have proven to be masters of manipulation, deflecting the real issues onto personality politics and with the newspapers support the majority fall in line. You ask the no voters what AV is, what it means - they haven't a clue!
There is a constituency not far from where I live which is considered the most deprived area in the country ( Pier ward, Tendring) worst health, greatest deprivation, massive unemployment. What did they vote? TORY ...... f***in TORY!!! What do they think the Tories are going to do for them?!! Thing is, they all read the Sun and the Daily Mail, believe all that shit and do as they're told.

A great opportunity for change has been missed.

I'd be interested on the thoughts of the no to AV voters, on the ridiculous situation in the North West where one council seat was decided on the toss of a coin, and another on the drawing of straws after dead heat votes. In one case the result meant one party came out with a majority too. How can that be right? Do you really think second preferences would not be better than leaving it to chance?

True - talking to folks around and about - I was amazed at the number who still could not be arsed and didn't vote at all - either in the local elections or for AV...

Labour's ability to fuck up in it's most dedicated heartland when campaigning against TWO government is quite an achievement.

The message seemed all wrong and Gray, along with Miliband, totally unable to inspire anyone...says so much that those leftwing liberals went to SNP rather than return to Labour.

Labour really seemed to think that Labour voters hating the government would spill over into everyone else voting Labour, without even addressing why so many people have deserted them since 1997...
