Anyone else had this happen.

What is on my PC screen (not the screen itself but what is running on the screen) is kind of flashing. I can't really describe it properly, I had iTunes open and suddenly a video on there began to play. I clicked on stop and it moved to the next video and began playing that.

Couldn't close iTunes down, tried to run task manager, but that would not stay on the screen. Couldn't get the start menu up so had to switch thePC off and re-boot.

All was okay for a couple of hours, then it happened again. Now I can't get anythng to work, I'm running a virus check (the one thing that has worked), but i ran one of those earlier today and have not been on any odd sites since then so doubt it's a virus.

I'm on my netbook at the moment, I don't really know what to google to get advice on this. If I look for flickering all the advice is about the screen but it is not that.

I can't even roll back to a previous recovery as I can't get anything to open - I was toldto run chkdsk, as soon as i type c a program beginning with C opens and then hangs.

is it possible to boot up in 'safe mode' and run any extra checks or utilities from there... sorry I'm not able to offer any more advice than that, I've been using a Mac for the last three years and thankfully said goodbye to all these kind of headaches... good luck though

It wasn't last night, indeed I couldn't even input my log in password as something seemed to take over the PC and the welcome screen kept flashing over and over as if it was closing and re-opening.

I pulled the plug completely in the end and left it overnight. Logged on to it very briefly this morning and everything seemed okay. I am wondering if something is caught under the keys on the keyboard as looking back it was as if I was hitting the return/enter key.

I got back in once and headed to the restore point screen, but clicking in the link to that generated a mega-hive of screen activity with the windows 7 permission box appearing over and over at extremely rapid speed.

I shall try it with an old keyboard tonight and see if the problem reproduces.

I had one suggestion it might be the graphics card trying to refresh the screen, but that usually sorts itself out within 30 seconds or so, this did not.

I hope it was the keyboard, easy to sort out if it is.

if the graphics card is an additional card (ie. not built into the motherboard) then it might be worth checking it is firmly connected, but the 'grit under the keyboard' issue sounds more plausible and probably more of a relief to fix if so.

If it is the graphics card I will be very, very annoyed. this is a new PC, got it in February to replace the one I bought in October which failed within two weeks due to a graphics card problem.

I'm reluctant to hand it back to the supplier for repair as last time it took six weeks, and when I chased them as to where my new PC was they had lost it.

so fingers crossed a change of keyboard will sort this out.

It wasn't the keyboard :( I've managed to go back to a restore point from last week, and refused the program updates that I had already added so will see if it stops. (I'll be deleting this thread once I'm sorted but if anyone still has any advice please let me know - that is, other than 'get a mac' as I've got a PC and I need it to work.

Do you know what the graphics card is - make and model? Might be worth checking their website for a driver update. Sometime the drivers get corrupted and cause problems so even if it's not an update it can sort it by reinstalling. Worth a try. also is there a driver for the keyboard? That might be worth uninstalling.

I've had no problems since I rolled back, and I haven't re-installed any of the programs yet. Will add them one by one, leaving a few days between, and see if there is a return of the problem.

But I may also do as you suggest as it could have been a conflict of existing drivers and those programs (I suspect the Adobe flash update as all was okay until I installed that).
