There's got to be more of a choice, somehow. At the turn of the last century, when there was no Labour Party, the same arguments were used. Those who were lucky enough to have the vote had no choice but to vote Liberal because that was the only alternative to the landowner and the rich. But, luckily, people ignored it and struck out for a party that represented their interests. Isn't it about time that a similar thing was done here? Isn't about time we all stopped voting Labour whilst holding our noses?
Sorry to be so abrupt but I'm so sick of people saying there are no choices. I mean, it shouldn't be beyond our collective intelligence to find one..

hear hear Helen.... i'm sorry to hear about your son being in hospital, what a nightmare! been through that meself and its not a pleasant exprience...
but getting back to business, i wholeheartedly agree with what you just said. What sickened me most about New Labour was the expenses business, finding out how much they could milk from the system to fund their poncey lifestyles.... i don't know why but somehow i expected more from our Labour MP's , you sort of expect the Tories to be out for themselves (I mean, a duck house for fucks sake !!) but when you read about the likes of Gerald Kaufman spending nearly 9 grand on a TV then you realise that most of them are out for what they can get.. and he's old school; Nye Bevan would be turning in his grave....

sounds like we should sign up for the SWP.

but even they're not perfect

i have some pals in the swp. christ, they do go on.
apparently the revolution is just around the corner.
i point out to them that as long as most of us are fed and housed there ain't gonna be no revolution. you only get revolution when you personally have nothing to lose.

tricky thing this politics.
well there's always the trade union and socialist coalition

oh heck, they're part of the swp apparatchik too. damn.

maybe the only interesting route is the situationist international ?

anyway....

kaufman is my mp. sod.

the expenses scandal was a bit of a fudge i reckon. in truth they were told to use their expenses as a replacement for increased wages back in the 80's because more wages wouldn't go down well at all. no-one else ever reformed that opinion. the board who approved these things approved all the expenses. it was accepted practice. clearly not good practice though.

the duck house was never approved so that's just hokum. i like to stick to the facts, not just what the papers imply. they were all in it anyway.
professional politicians (bit of a dichotomy) are always dodgy. anyone met any ?

on another note
in manchester withington last time round, the labour vote clearly made a choice to desert keith bradley in protest.
ended up with lib dem. useless streak of *!@$.
bet they don't do that this time

I remember Lib Dems won by 50 votes or so in Withington last election.I don't think it was just a protest vote. That constituency includes Chorlton where we lived for 15 years and in that time we saw all the original Labour voting locals move out because they couldn't afford to live there. In their place moved in Didsbury wannabees who thought it a wheeze to oust the labour party and install an MP more fitting to their middle class aspirations.

I've always voted for the Green Party but this time I reckon the Lib Dems could do the other two some serious damage so I'm going with them. The main players in Labour have betrayed the party's roots. And the Tories are a bunch of c :safe: :elephant: :pukel: s, as is well known.

It was on CSPAN here in the States, very interesting to get the real thing, not just news reports of what goes on elsewhere.
